I never make my bed, but it is never messy either. Instead I neatly fold back the upper half of the comforter and straighten the edges. The fitted sheet is unwrinkled anyway. A made bed may look prettier, but mine is airing the whole day (with the windows open as long as possible) and I just like it this way.

Yes for sure, all beds are made if everyone is working. Weekend a couple might be left undone as the boys will have laptop and paperwork to continue. Rest of room does get clean though along with emptying of rubbish bins every morning.

I can't stand a room with an unmade bed, looks messy and somehow not clean. This is a decorating site and a well made bed is part of a well decorated room. Why worry about bed style, art over the bed, night tables, lamps and linens if the bed will remain messy and unmade "because I'm just going to mess it up later"? The bed is the focal point of a bedroom. To me an unmade bed is a sign of laziness and sloven. Yes, I know I'll get a ration of indignant responses, but how can you counsel someone on the decorating of a bedroom when you can't be bothered to make your bed?

Bluenan, I couldn't agree with you more. I was about to say the exact same thing. So often I see requests for help in decorating when the house is sloppy and cluttered, beds unmade. Why bother doing anything?

As you may have guessed, I make my bed - hell or high water. It takes so few minutes. why not?

To each his own though. What ever floats your boat and you feel comfortable with.

i totally own up to my lazy-ass-ness, though. ;D

On my "lazy" days, I make my bed and do my dishes as those both have the largest impact with the least effort-80% of the time. On my "productive" days, I make my bed and do my dishes as those are top of my list for 'a place for everything, and everything in its place'-15% of the time. On the days my inner child needs comfort I make my bed with my preferred side turned back and my dishes drying in the rack as a clean house isn't as important as a contented soul-5% of the time. On my "'F' It" days, I tear my bed into a messy pile, dive into it like a pile of leaves, then walk away until I feel like laundering the bedding (usually right before sleep as I love a fresh laundered bed). My home is 100% my sanctuary, comfort my utmost priority. Each day, made or unmade, I make an intentional decision of how my bed will look and I sleep all the better for it thankful I have a bed.

I have good intentions but bedroom on second floor and doesn't get done daily.

Well, to each their own. An unmade bed doesn't have to look like the "example photo" below the vote. Honestly, I wouldn't even want to touch that bed, it looks filthy. On the other hand, I would also not want to touch a bed that has been made within an hour after getting up. And I've seen lots of beautifully made beds in dirty, overstuffed bedrooms, dusty ruffles and stale air included. To me, unmade doesn't equal dirty and made isn't automatically clean. The world isn't black or white.

So good night everyone. It's almost midnight here and I'm going to bed - my beautiful, crisp, unmade bed that smells of sun and fresh air. ;-)

Well my mom drummed it into my head to always have a clean bedrom and a made up bed in my childhood we did not have fitted sheets or duvets we had starched sheets and blankets with a cover that was so tight u could bounce a ball on it my mom even made us do hospital corners love having the duvet so lazy not to make your bed

My sweetie prefers that the bed be thoroughly "aired out" every day, so I just make it when expecting company. He'd make the bed ...never. However, when the cat comes back indoors for the night, I'll pull the blankets up before she can get to the bed, to prevent cat hair from invading the sheets.

I read a "study" once that claimed that people over the age of fifty tend to make their beds regularly. People under the age of fifty, according to the study, tend not to make their beds every day. Times have changed, people have become busier, Generation Xers don't know anything about the bed-making process. Duh! :))

I like to let the bed air all day then make it sometime in the evening.

I don't know why I function better when I make my bed in the morning. It only takes 4 minutes to do (yes, I timed it) so yeah, I do it. Getting into a made bed every night feels so decadent too.

I make my bed everyday. Not when I first get out of it. I have coffee first. After that the bed is made. I just feel uncomfortable when it's not made. And when my husband and I go to bed his side of the bed I'd rolled to the center and mine Is neatly turned down and is ready for me to climb in and be comfortable. If my side liked like my husbands I would never get to sleep.

Mostly no, although I like getting into a nicely made bed at night. The problem is the nicely made bed thing - if the duvet is just tossed over and not smoothed out and tucked in then it doesn't feel the same, and some days if my back is hurting I don't feel up to making it properly, or if the dog is still sound asleep I feel bad about making him move. :)

Sometimes I'll come back and make it later on in the day before bedtime if my back is cooperating, but I need some kind of bed making robot or to figure out a way to do it without actually bending over. :)

I always make my bed and I even at least pull the duvet up when I stay in a hotel and leave it like that to Housekeepers :)

Most of the time, yes. I love walking away and turning back to get the last peek before I go downstairs. And I really don't like getting into an unmade bed...lol

Restored Homestead, heartily agree...especially for those of us fighting depression. Making the bed each AM gives a feeling of accomplishment early and spurs me on for ... ?

My husband and I have an agreement that we will make the bed as a ritual, together, but then one of us does it alone to surprise the other. We go back and forth on this and try to even each other's efforts out.

I was taught at a very young age that random wandering spiders/bugs have a much more difficult time settling into your bed if it's made properly, including making sure that the openings of the pillow cases are towards the outside of the bed so that if they happen to wander in they'll always climb out to the floor not the middle of the bed. I rarely see spiders or bugs in the house but better safe than sorry right? :)

in the winter our cats used to get under the covers even if the bed was made, so there would be three lumps!!!

Whether you make it or not, make sure you pull the covers back and let it cool. That alone reduces bed mites as they need warm and damp to multiply.

funny thing, I am a very neat and tidy person throughout my home and love my bed fresh and clean and made but i also love a tumbled fight for the covers messy tousled feeling too! so i do both. Kinda of a joke between me and my husband who cant figure it out with me and neither can i and dont care to!

Of course, we wouldn't want to let the cat sleep on an unmade bed all day!

Well now PirateFoxy, in the morning he retreats to the warm heated tiles of the bathroom floor. And its easier to get a drink from the wet shower than to have to travel all the way down stairs to the water bowl. He's got a long hard day ahead of him, no point wearing himself out too early!

@Carosella So what I need to do is get underfloor heating somewhere in the house so the dog will voluntarily relocate... I see how this works. ;) (Hilariously, Pirate does seem to prefer a made bed. Though he doesn't like to sleep on TOP of the covers if there's someone to turn them down for him. But if I change the sheets in the early evening then as soon as I start smoothing out the duvet, there he is, waiting to get in.) (My dog is not at all spoiled, nope.)

Since we dont have any excess pillows, just my 2 and his 1, and since we have a georgeous new boudoir, and since its just one flap of a giant duvet and you're done, I do make it within about 1/2 hr of getting up:) If this picture does not get up there someone please tell me how to do it:) Bella the Principessa Bellisima modeling the alpaca throw blanket.

I love having a made bed when I walk into the bedroom. Really is worth the extra 2 minutes every morning.

NOTE: It is recommended to let your bed air out before you make it each day, because when you sleep you perspire quite a bit.

I usually let the bed air out for about a half hour, then fluff the pillows and pull up the covers.When I worked away from home it got made every day. Now that we are older we have "extras". He sleeps on a wedge to elevate his head and keep him from snoring, while I sleep with a wedge to elevate my feet and keep my circulation going. In our old house we had a big closet to hide these items. Now we don't.

Our next home (we move this summer) will again have a decent sized closet. I will also have completed the new quilt to put on our bed, and then my bed will once again be nice and neat.

No, I don't make the bed. For the first 25 years of our marriage (35 this year!) my husband worked some nights and making the bed seemed like a waste of time.

When our 3 kids lived here I told them "You don't have to make your bed, but then keep the door closed so I don't have to see it." My daughter's door was always closed.

Yes, while I am rinsing with mouthwash for one minute, that's when the bed gets made.

Also my Grandmother used to say, if the dishes are done and the beds are made, the house is clean.
