We have a dilemma in our steam shower design. It's a regular shower also, so we would need a transom for venting when showering, yes? So if we want to turn our steam on remotely from iPad and we are away from home, how do we make sure the transom is closed? We are planning on locating the vent fan with high cfm rating just outside the shower.

We use our steam shower for regular showers and do not have a transom. After steaming or showering we just open the shower door and turn on the bath fan to evacuate moisture. Our steam unit made by Kohler takes very little time to begin generating steam. I can't imagine it being necessary to turn the unit on remotely.

Michigammermom, do you find if you take a long regular shower that you have too much steam? I can't imagine needing to turn it on remotely either, but my husband, mr technology, is adding a smart house feature, control 4, so we can turn lights and outdoor jacuzzi, et cetera on and off remotely, so I guess he was thinking turn it on from bed and then you would have to get up anyway to make sure the transom is closed. Most of the designs I see here on houzz for steam showers include the transom, and we haven't ordered our doors yet so trying to finalize our research. Thanks for your help!

Chrispazzani, I suppose it depends on what you would consider a LONG shower. Personally we do not have a problem with steam build-up when showering or general moisture issues in the master bath.
