Temporary kitchen remodel crisis!

We are remodeling our entire house top to bottom. Our plan is to tear down the walls in between the kitchen and living room/dining room and putting in new cabinets and an island. We have decided for a short term fix that we are going to leave the kitchen as is and just paint the cabinets, put in cheap linoleum (theres currently CARPET!!!!), and putting in a cheap counter top to replace the 70s style we have now. This is only going to be a temporary fix for about a year or so. Here's where I need input. The living room/dining room are going to be a soft grey color w white trim. Im not sure what color scheme to go with on the cabinets in the kitchen. The kitchen is currently seperated by a wall. My bf (I am posting on his account) really likes white or antique white cabinets but we have a 2 year old so I don't want to do that as a lower cabinet color. We have talked about doing the upper cabinets white or antique but I dont know what color to do for the lower cabinets and counter top.... I love grey and white combos but w the living room and dining room being grey Im afraid it is going to be too grey.... We both love color. We have a teal bedroom, plum bedroom, seafoam green bathroom, red bathroom, and yellow accents in the livingroom. What advice or experiences do you have reguarding painted kitchen cabinets possibly using off white forbthe upper cabinets? Im completely lost on this room. It is only going to be temporary but I have to be able to stand it for a year or two.....
