Do you have any restrictions on the width? If not, and you are looking for a more contemporary look, then you might think about mounting a shelf that is 12" longer on both sides, so 60" in width, underneath the television. This would provide more than ample space for all of your gadgets and would also allow for something decorative to take the focus off of technology (vase, bowl or some framed pictures).
