Garage to kitchen conversion, need help!

Hi! We've got a 1940's house with a one-car garage at the back of the house.. See pictures. The window on the lower left, is actually looking into the garage. We are in desperate need of kitchen space and are thinking of putting an eat-in kitchen in the garage.

Our current kitchen is a very small, galley kitchen (with no space for a dishwasher). The current kitchen has a door to our deck on one side. On the opposite side, is a door to the basement. We are thinking of removing the wall with the sink, this will open up the garage space for a much larger kitchen. I have no idea what to do with the existing kitchen space.

Has anyone gone through similar renovations? I'm having a very hard time envisioning what this transition will look like and how it will tie into our existing space.

How did you patch up the garage door area? Did you/would you keep the door as a design element? Our current garage door empties out onto pavement - not the most aesthetically pleasing..

Thank you!!
