Why not hide the baseboard heaters. They so detract from the wainscot

The baseboard heaters could have been replaced in that room for another style of heater...such as above a closet, or with a small fan mounted on the wall, moving the air about...This is detracting from the look...in a very large way. I believe that my question is polite, Thank you.

I stumbled across this looking for hints from others on working around baseboard heaters. I think your question is somewhat unrealistic, unless the owner is converting the entire heating system. I have done this with wainscoting as well, and while it is not ideal, it is certainly not horrible. I hate the dust and especially noise and uneven heating you get with forced air and will never consider it. The only alternative that I would consider is radiant floor heat, but the expense to switch to it seems extravagant when I actually love the warmth and quiet of hot water baseboard.

Sorry, I'm coming off much harsher than I mean to. It's just not as simple as putting a fan in or moving the baseboard up the wall.

And as an afterthought, once the room is furnished, you will only see the beautiful wainscot and other details because the baseboards will be hidden by furniture. And you'll have cozy, even heating!

Shirley, did you do any kitchen reno that was complicated by the baseboards? I'm currently trying to figure out how to add additional cabinets on walls that have baseboards. All your renos are beautiful!

just curious when you say you love to quiet heat of the baseboards. We have a new house with sun temp heaters and they rattle and bang all day and night. I am not sure how to hire to look at them and our builder isn't able to remedy the situation. Any advice? Also, once furniture is in the heaters do go away…. don't notice ours at all. thx. J

Hiding them with furniture could create a fire hazard and obstruct the flow of air. Our covers easily slip over the ugly existing ones and wont interrupt the flow of design. ventandcover.com

Jeanaps, sorry, I just now noticed your question. Since our baseboard heating is oil fired hot water, depending on the problem, we call either our furnace repair guy or our plumber. The only time we've ever had any noise at all is if there is air in the lines. Since it's a closed system, that rarely happens, usually only after it's been serviced and wasn't bled properly before being turned back on for use. Then my husband will go downstairs and bleed the trapped air out so it's quiet again.

Vent and Cover, I appreciate that your comments and product are meant to be helpful, but I was speaking of hot water baseboards, not electric. Water is extremely safe; the baseboards are warm, not hot, to the touch, and kids, furniture, pets, and even the occasional drying socks and mittens are not in danger.

But yes, if we had electric, I'd certainly keep everything a safe distance away. I do like the covers you've got, they look much more complimentary and deliberate in design than my boring standard baseboards.

Gail's question may be polite but shows her complete lack of how a home's heating system works. You're talking about changing the heating infrastructure in the home, and it is definitely not fixed by magically mounting a fan on a wall, which would not be aesthetically pleasing either.
