If doing wainescoting coating should you use the same paint finish on

We are putting wainescoting in a room. The wood will be a semi gloss stain. The drywall inlays and the upper wall, should that be the same finish as the wood stain?

If it were my house I would do a flat paint finish on the walls and drywall inlay to give it a different look. You will want the wainscot ting to be distinctive and more of an eye catch than your drywall. Or if you don't like the flat paint idea go with a satin.

The foyer light is from Pottery Barn but I believe is now discontinued. The light fixture hanging in the stairwell in front of the window is a Capital Lighting nine light chandelier.

Just don't. The space looks nice and calm. It doesn't need wainscot. And keep the paint flat.
