Need help with my kitchen.

I used to have a black hutch on the back wall, but I found it to be too large. The chairs at the end of the table made it feel closed in. Any ideas of what I should put there?

how about some pretty, large art?
you could do a skinny console table if you need a place to put extra serving dishes.

A nice squarish painting or wall hanging/3d piece like a mask and a narrow hutch or black wall shelf should complete the look.

I think you need something black. I know that is vague, but I like the idea of that black hutch there.

Or I have seen large silverware that might work there.

Floating shelves with some teapots on them?

If you can find slim shelf in black I would suggest adding one so you have a place to put the wine glasses or beverages on it while you entertain. You can keep a piece of art leaned up on it to add color and decor if it's sturdy enough. Even make it a place to add seasonal decor without coming out into the room taking up much space! Candles, a chalkboard menu...anything can be placed there depending on your mood!

If you like the shelf idea, Pottery Barn has some nice ones:

I would get a new piece of art. Maybe something like a large vertical vintage poster...Or a mirror.

I would opt for an art wall with adjustable recessed lighting. The chandelier is clever but it's too heavy for that location.

id just cover that wall in a gorgeous wallpaper. that way it doesnt have to be too dark. or their are some wall decal stickers that you could have a picture or a quote.

A kelim, hung vertically. It'd work with your earthy finishes.

An oversized piece of art would be great along the back wall!
Perhaps a small "sidebar" (can serve dishes/snacks/drinks from it, or you could just place decorative items on it-seasonal if you choose-). I would then either place a mirror with an ornate, wood, antique black and/or distressed black frame behind it. I would either securely lean it on wall or hang it. Placing unique multi-sized candles in front of would bring a touch of ambiance and light....while at the same time giving the illusion of a larger space with twice the light!

What about a flat plate rack?
I think black makes the area look too heavy. The idea of floating shelves done the same wall color or nice wood grain like the table color would look marvelous. Especially with a collection of yours displayed. Like colors or like items combo. Put the bottom shelf waist high that could be used for serving when company is there.

These are all great ideas...how big is the room? How much space is there from the end of the table to the wall?

Just to reinforce (I hope) my feeling that the wall needs a kelim. This cutie from http://www.thibaultvanrenne.be/en/Carpets/Kelim/Ghashgai_Kelim/.

I love the kelim wall hanging that Rina added to your room. It really enlivens the space!

The kelim looks great, but I love Quilts, could be changed out for the different seasons.

Hi - I have 2 thoughts; (1) Why not hang a semi-circle mirror that looks like it has windowpanes. It will reflect the light from your window on the adjoining wall. Then you could hang plates in a semi-circle above the mirror and down the sides, making the wall arrangement fill the wall. (2) A medium to large sized wall hung plate rack that resembles a kitchen cabinet, in black if you like, I've seen a great one on Joss and Main lately with lots of differing display options for lots of dinnerware and it's only 9" deep.
I like Janice's quilt idea too; it would have a similar warming effect. Ruth's mirror could look beautiful but could also prove a bit of a distraction to the gathered diners. I wouldn't be able to resist peeking at fellow munchers in the mirror instead of looking at them directly.

Great wall space....I might add some color. The large floating shelf with a small lip that
decoenthusiasts recommends would look sharp, especially with a bright wall hanging or print or something with color hanging above. The shelf could have some tall candles, books laying flat with a lamp, etc. It's a great opportunity to perk up the room with color.
