Plan two for sure. I'm a new comer to this issue - more replies in such a short period than I've ever seen before from Houzz community - but as I've been 'uninvolved! till now, I hope my opinion can still weigh in with a 'gut feel'. But understand plan one allows for a better back story for years to come and goes along with your original idea. There. Now have I confused you more??? (Sorry!)

Beautiful home with great views! One suggestion I don't think I've seen here yet is a natural fiber rug in a warm color tone. You may be able to find a sisal or seagrass rug (or have one bound with fabric or leather) with an edge in a color similiar to your family room rug. A natural fiber rug would also pull the outdoors in through your amazing windows!

I'm not fond of the idea of repeating the same rug or using a second pattern. I personally think it would be best to choose a rug in the same colorway as the other two (not blue) without a distinct pattern. At the end of the day, it's your home, so go with what makes you happy!

totally agree with ellyn143! Before I saw her post I was going to suggest the same exact thing!

Don't get a 'twin rug'...get a 'sister' one...similar but not identical. You might find related rugs from the same company as your original one...or just look for one that can pull some or all of the colours of the original rug.

Well, now that I've entered debate I can't stop myself...I see sisal or solids as safe options, true, but Gerenfam clearly is trying to be more edgy while delineating areas with her own colors led by beautiful dining area rug. I think you're in danger of overthinking - one of my constant decorating woes! But Ellyn143 - thank you for reminding me about sisal. I want a rug in my kitchen, but need it to be soft underfoot as I'm a barefoot in-the-house person. Perhaps newer sisals are softer.

I used the same rug twice in my old house. It adds a nice flow.

I am with paula here, no on the sisal rug.

I think that the problem is that the dining room rug has such a distinct pattern that repeating it would just be too much and take away from the uniqueness. Love rug combo number 2, especially the fourth rug.

I love the ikat rug. I am enamoured of ikat. I think repeating it is more than fine. You have variety with the third rug.

And as I mentioned elsewhere, you can get a sisal weave rug in wool.

Love rug combo two, I agree with pkstanley. Sisal is lovely but harsh underfoot.

Your home is beautiful and interesting. Very nicely furnished! What if u used that rug in the dining room and purchased another rug for the room where the rug is now. Your house is so interesting I wouldn't duplicate the rug twice it's too nice to share again. U have great taste and u will find a rug u like as much to be used in either room.

I like the two you have love love and the 3rd one in the blue with the touch of orange.

Casting my vote for plan 2.

Plan #1 did not work. Having two rugs with like colors & same pattern did take away from the special uniqueness of my dining room rug. I'm going to try plan #2 - which seems to win the vote hands down! Here are the three rugs I now have (dining room, family room , eat in kitchen) - the 4th rug is on it's way - thanks rugsdoneright!

Rug #3 does not look that dark in my home. It has livable shades of robin's egg with an ombre background that transitions from camel to ivory and back again.

Wich rugs did you decide on?

OK - I need your help again!! I've secured 3 of the 4 rugs I need. The last one is for the "formal" living room- a room that is 16'(w) x 21'(L). The size rug that all my furniture will fit on (barely) is 10x14. The rug I'm looking at is out of stock in this size but does have a 12x15. Is there such a thing as too big a rug??

This is the rug. Obviously I need other furniture pieces in the room. End tables/lamps-possible sofa table -please overlook this point. 10x14 would just barely cover the rug pad that is in the pictures. 12x15 would cover the pad by another foot on each side in width & another 6" on each end in length. Would love any and all input! The larger rug is more expensive but it is in stock. The smaller rug is a wait of 2-4 months...

I am amazed by this thread: your dining room rug is the exact rug I have been obsessing about for weeks but can't afford, and I have seen and considered almost every other rug pictured here. Trying to find a complementary rug (my hallway is adjacent to the living room) presents an INSOLUBLE puzzle. I feel your angst! Personally, I think Rugsdoneright had very good advice and made excellent suggestions.

I think the larger rug will work just fine. There is room for it, in the room, without it crowding the walls and your furniture will comfortably fit on it with a little room to spare.
It is a gorgeous rug and all your new rugs co ordinate beautifully!

What happened to the blue "diamonds" rug you had chosen previously as your fourth rug? I thought the blue in it picked up the blue in your Ikat perfectly.

Thank you again everyone! I am moving forward with the 12x15 rug (it should arrive this week) It was determined that the room could hold this size rug without crowding the walls or walk spaces. Here is a picture of the rug (sample size) with my dining room ikat.

Love the warm colours in your new rug! It looks even nicer in the sample then in the photo! Really co ordinates with the "flavour" of your original Ikat too.

wydyacre-I agree the original 4th rug with the blue "diamonds" looked like it WAS my answer for the final rug. Unfortunately, when the sample size arrived it was VERY blue - too much for my home. So my search started all over again!

Also remember, that dependent upon the end of the rug you are looking at, you will have a light end and a dark end. You will more than likely have a favorite end! Place that end from where you will see it most often! Cheers! m.

Monique-thank you for reminding me of that. I will make sure we figure that out before we place the rug (being it is so large & heavy). My husband will be happy that we thought of that first!

Ummm, hate to upset the apple cart here, but I'm wondering about the size of the new EIK rug. Is it too narrow? I keep hearing designers on Houzz say you need room to push the chairs out and still have them on the rug. I was a little surprised no one mentioned it.

Hi jen046- you are correct - it is a bit slim/narrow. This is one of those imperfect things in my house that I will have to gladly live with! We didn't want to have to "cut down" a rug so we made a 6x9 work. The rug fit my budget & style so we went with it! I love all the input on this sight. Everyone submits their ideas with such kindness too - this is truly a positive & unique experience! Thank you!!

You could, or just take color tones from that rug and make the kitchen different, but will tie together with colors.

Yes I would definitely remove two chairs. And as for the rug I would go for solids. Since your dining room rug is somewhat busy. Pick a color from the rug and go with that. It will make your rooms look larger
