How about a parsons chair in leather or upholstery? Maybe mix it up a little, too--leather on the sides and upholstered, with arms, on the ends. Beautiful table.

Does it have to be 14? I'm just wondering if it's because you have 14 people to seat or it's because that's the maximum number that will fit? What wasn't working for you with the Windsors? That may help us figure out what will work where Windsors failed.

Hi Michelle - What a beautiful table ! You have a perfect area under the window for a very long bench or window seat - banquette . If you box it in then you have storage inside - then top it off with some beautiful upholstered seat cushions and a colorful group of toss cushions along the back. That way you won't need to find so many chairs. Then find some very simple chairs with upholstered seats with a matching arm chair for each end of the table. With the bench you are not stuck with seats for only a certain amount of guests.Benches are the best if there are kids at the table. A Parsons style chair - as said - is a perfect style that fits with many other styles of furniture and they are easy to get some washable slipcovers for.

what a lovely home for the table! i wonder if you could borrow some chair styles and try them out? just to see what they look like before you take the plunge. you might have a different perspective if they are around the table rather than in the showroom..

What a lovely problem to have! Do I see a deck right outside, and a nice woodsy yard? Maybe you can find some outdoor chairs that look good indoors as well. That way you could move them in or out for entertaining without worrying about them (not to mention eliminating the winter storage problem for your outdoor seating pieces). I know Lowe's had some very nice, lightweight, upholstered Parson's chairs last year with rugged, indoor/outdoor removable covers. I've also seen very nice outdoor wicker chairs and benches with interchangable Sunbrella cushions that could work nicely indoors as well.

Hi Michelle, I agree with efty47 in regard to the bench in front of the window. It will help keep the focal point on those beautiful windows you have, think of them as free art with that beautiful nature landscape you have going on. As for the chairs I would mix it up a little, go for something like the images below. Maybe with pattern or texture to then tho.

Those are beautiful lifetime chairs - My choice are the ( Sydney Chairs )because they are so differant and they look comfy

I love the table! With all the wood I would love to see a slip covered side chair along the sides. Ballard has parsons chair with a slipcover or an upholstered Couture chair, the couture chair also has a short slipcover with pleats. Pottery Barn has a Napa chair with a long slip cover. Two different chairs on the ends would add interest, something with arms maybe.

I'd have a carpenter make 2 wooden benches in the style of the table

This type of table was the very first woodworking project I ever worked on. I was 8 and was in charge of handing my Dad whatever tool he needed next. We built two long branches that were smaller versions of the table and has a ladder back chair with a woven seat. 45 years later the table ,benches and chairs are still sitting in the same place in the kitchen .

Heather - the Windsor chairs looked too small. The table looks much more substantial than the chairs.

I say two benches with long fabric cushions tyed on. On the window side. Upolstered chairs on the other with the two ends being larger than the others. Look the table!

If you are concerned about the weight (or lack thereof) with a Windsor chair, try Restoration Hardware. Their dining chairs are usually shown with heavy tables & come in finish options. Good luck!

Hi Michelle - Love the table and the view! I agree with the bench seating suggestions above. I have an old twelve foot long library table next to a ten foot wide fireplace. I did the dozen plus chairs to no avail... it will drive you crazy trying to keep them all tucked in and tidy and most importantly they block the view. We made four 5' long benches and two 30" short benches. Similar to Shaker benches but made out of 1" MDF board, painted all the same color (see attached). For Christmas dinner we had 20 people seated comfortably. I suggest using two per side this way the whole group of diners do not have to stand up or move when someone wants to sit or leave the table. Benches like this one were commonly used in Shaker meeting halls, but are equally indispensable in a modern home. I use the short end one daily as a step stool in the pantry. SO OK - yes there's a garbage/recycle can and a red wagon full of drinks on the hearth... best place for them during a party!

Benches are made out of Windsor One 5/4 pine, comes prefinished, material is nice and smooth, stable with low moisture content.

just a notey note. benches are great unless you are older and you need a cushion:) and something to lean on..

That is exactly why I said to build in a bench or window box with cushions - then it's almost like a sofa.Hard wooden benches may look nice and country like but are very uncomfortable for anyone to sit on for a time. I always liked family dinners where you can sit for a long comfy get together.

Your table is gorgeous and the view is spectacular. My first thought was also an upholstered bench. This gives a finished look to the window, comfort and storage. I would like to see upholstered arm chairs at the ends of the table. For the outside of the table, how about ladderback chairs with upholstered seats or tied cushions to coordinate with the side chairs. I could picture a cream and black buffalo check, a stripe and a floral. Paint the chairs and bench black and they will not detract from the table. If you like DIY projects, buy some idea base cabinets for the bench. Ps. Less is more. You don't need seating for 14 at all times. Keep it to maybe four chairs so they look orderly. Just saying'.

I had never thought about 14 chairs being too many....That is a good point. I think benches make sense. Definitely going to try something different at the ends :)

I would do the window seat bench with storage and pillows for the back. Chairs on the opposite sides and end. I would have fabric matching the chairs for the bench cushion. Beautiful table.

See if you can try several of your chair choices " on trial " to see how they fit with the table and how they look in the space. Some of the better stores have an in house designer to work with that may make that possible.

Wow Michelle. What a great idea. You constantly amaze me. I LOVE Lefty47's idea of the upholstered banquette under the window (boxed in for storage, i.e. extra cushions?) I also LOVE the idea of the 2 upholstered end chairs shown by Decor Innovation by RCI with the armless side chairs. I can't remember if you have any space to lean against from a banquette - you don't want people leaning against the glass. I would also suggest leather for the upholstery material or you will be constantly worried about all those kids sitting on those seats! (not to mention London!!!!!!!!!) I can see it now - wonderful.

Benches are horrible things to subject your dinner guests to - it reminds me of being a kid eating at those long industrial tables in the Gymnasium/Lunch Room....
...they're awful on the back - and other people have to move everytime someone needs to to excuse themselves mid-meal.

Upholstered chairs are the way to go here: Two Wing Chairs at the ends of the table, and upholstered armchairs along the sides.
