Those are roman shades? Looks like flat valances to me.--but very pretty!

I can see the top of your chandelier in the photo so I am assuming this to be a window in the second level of a 2 story foyer. It would indicate to me that you need a more than just a valance there. If you need the privacy, go ahead and use a crisp clean honeycomb shade. I would then suggest adding a pair of panels to the window bringing them out a little bit on the wall to make the window seem larger. I would make them floor length and add a brush fringe to the leading (inner) edges vertically. The fabric could be one of many different colors and styles depending on what is styles and fabrics you have in the foyer below it.

besides the window treatment... I'm thinking color! You've got big, open, well lit (I think!) space.. what about adding some color? The doorway trimwork, balusters, and light carpet can be a nice offset to a bolder color. As for window treatment, I'm a fan of drama, so what do you think of curtain panels, draped and pulled to the left side of the window?

The inverted pleat roman shades are a great idea. If you would be leaving them up as in karen paul interior's photo I would add white blinds to lower for privacy when needed, but opened during the day to let light in. The sunshine coming in that window is so nice! I'm not sure that hallway is wide enough for floor length drapes.

Yes remove. Go a simple roman shade. Use a accent color for them.

Grace, perhaps I should clarify. What I have pictured are not "working" Roman shades. It's a great look. However, if you also need privacy, you can do the honeycombs underneath (which are not revealed) until they are in a down position.
