There isn't any wood trim, which makes the house feel newer, more modern, but also less formal and less expensive/ lush looking. See this inspiration room for what I mean. see how those high ceilings allow for some pretty fancy and thick wood moldings on the ceiling, doors, and windows? They take up visual space and make it feel much less generic and bland.




Any woodwork, paneling, moldings, coffers or casings added to a room have to be proportional to the space. Given how tall the ceilings are and how very large the room is, I think you can get away with -- perhaps even need -- some substantial additions. You can see in each of the examples attached (all similar spaces butdifferent styles) that the fireplace is also emphasized with wood molding, pictures, or stone. You'll need something similar to replace that big mirror and bring the focus of the space back to the fireplace.
