The fifty year old junker tipping atop a piece of plumbing pipe that came with the house was at the bottom of the fixer-upper list for a sad many years.

Finally it rose to the top of the list and was replaced with one to befit the rest of the reno. I woke up and smiled every day for a week as I surveyed the view out the front window and my classic, beefy new post and mailbox.

A week later, a detour sign went up, and vehicles were turning around...bam.

I don't have a mailbox. But if I had a mailbox, I'd want the one in Jeannie's photo. I've always loved it.

We'll be replacing ours soon. Our drive is a couple hilly football fields long with the mailbox at the end of it of course. It's the same one that came with the house, but we want one with a lock on it for packages and that more clearly reads our address since it is so far from the house.

I ran over the mailbox at our old house right after closing! We still had some stuff in the garage to get. Hubby straightened it back up as best he could. I told the new owner, who is a contractor and and my son's best friend that it was me and he laughed. The wooden post was warp already. The mailbox itself wasn't damaged. That is the first (and hopefully the only) time I have ever hit a mailbox. I plan to purchase an all metal, heavy duty Art Deco style mailbox for our new house. It's not very high on my remodel list, though.

Nicole, you must live in an urban area. Out in the country they not only get run over (sometimes flat), they get shot and hit by beer bottles. Mailboxes live a hard life on country roads! Lol.

The one at my mom's house is just a standard one, kinda like this. But when I was little, I used to put rocks in the mailbox everyday and drive my mom nuts. It was fun!

We live in the country as well, and 1/4th mile drive from our house to mailbox.....so it's in the midst of several other mailboxes - and no one seems to care what they look like; our problem is teens that get their enjoyment smashing mailboxes; ours has been smashed 3 times within a 6 month timeframe. (I say teens, could be young adults as well, who knows)!

Well we didnt run over our mailbox but a grandson in our neighborhood did, him and grandpa went for a ride around the block and while grandpa was talking to grandson he ran our mailbox straight over. Hes about 4 years old. We got a new one put up by his son and it stayed nice for a few days till the baseball bat came around. Had a big dent in it. Pushed dent out as best as I could it was all black . So I decided to fix it up with some white & green apple paint. Some numbers from a cricut. And it worked looks so cute now its white with Green apple stripes. And added a lime green pink & blue bow. My brother in law says its girly. No matter I like it. And yes I tell company across from the Green Striped mailbox! lol

I am looking to replace the small mail slot in our garage door and have been using Houzz to look for ideas for a wider mail slot. Also need to find a basket to hang on the inside of the garage door to catch the mail. Keep the ideas coming!

I have flowers painted on mine. I love the stripped one from ozzygirl. I need a new one. If someone new is coming to my house, I just say, it's the house with the painted flower mailbox.

I had a couple of old mailboxes and decided to hang them on my fence as garden art. That couple turned into a collection of over 20. Its a great conversation starter as you can see them from my dining room window. I am always on the hunt for new and different styles!

@solincia - how do u like the PB mailbox (from original photo)? I read some reviews of it not keeping out water - thoughts? Do u recommend? My entry is not covered so I need something that will keep mail dry!

    how fun!

Thanks Brandon Watson. Haven't had any birds build a nest in them yet, but before the mailbox collection started, I did have birdhouses on that fence. They lasted several years but since most were made of wood, they finally fell apart. Everybody missed seeing the bird houses, so that is how I got the idea of hanging the metal mailboxes there.
Once while having a garage sale a retired postman stopped by and absolutely loved the fence of mailboxes and wanted to buy the whole collection from me. As you can see, I had to turn him down.

@cmcole I like it! It's deep enough to hold all of the mail, and the junk, and I haven't had any issues with water. Our house has a two story roof with pillars, so it does occasionally meet with rain if it's blowing the right way, and we haven't ended up with wet mail.

It's surprises me that people will spend money on everything else, but have mailboxes that should have been replaced years ago.

I'm not sure what style your looking for but here are some wood idea's, we could give you a price on something if you can't find what your looking for, a sketch would help. Wood type, painted, stained, and size all these factor into what someone is going to ask you. Good luck with your project.

What is the IDEAL placement for a mailbox and how high should it hang? I have a wall mount mailbox. THANK YOU

I have a similar question, I'm not sure if there's a standard side of the door to put our wall-mounted mailbox. MJ- I read somewhere a suggestion of no lower than 30". There are actually no guidelines for the wall-mounted ones, but you could always ask your carrier what they think.
