The other place we own, I hate the windows. It is on a beach and it has crank louvered slats that are impossible to clean the salt.

My home has some features i love, high ceilings, hardwood floors and crown molding but my kitchen and bathrooms are basic builder grade. The cabinets are thermofoil, laminate counters and cheap faucets. I hope to begin work on my dream kitchen spring 2014.

@ sigrid - it sounds like you have a really nice kitchen. I'll trade with you. Here is my kitchen :)

The outside of my house. It is a huge tacky Tuscan inspired villa type house that was popular in 2005...perfect for Italy, ridiculous in Idaho. I hate fake architecture, having lived in homes built in the late 1800's. The inside has great potential however, and we are halfway through remodeling. It is our retirement home and big enough to entertain all our grandchildren. I cringe every time I drive up my driveway. Everyone else loves it though which proves there is no accounting for taste!

I love my house, even though I have a list of things I want to do to it that will cost a small fortune, but my biggest "ugh" is the main bathroom.
Last renovated in 1977, I have a brown toilet, brown sink, brown bidet and brown Jacuzzi tub. The tub can never have the jets turned on, because the gunk that spews out of those jets makes my stomach churn.
Having a brown sink means every time you brush your teeth, the proof remains in the sink.
Oh, and the floor and wall tiles are also poop-brown with some accent tiles with pictures of "wheat" thrown in in a random pattern.
I. Hate. That. Bathroom.
Unfortunately, there is no short term plan to change it until I add a bathroom in the basement so the family can shower while the main bath gets gutted!
But hoooo boy am I gonna LOVE demolition day!!!

We have a ranch house with the furnace/hot water heater at one end and the master bed/bath at the other....takes forever for hot water to get to the bathroom, the heat never does :( Will be renovating the master suite soon, so hopefully these problems will be solved or at least diminished. Otherwise the house and property are perfect, absolutely perfect!

Unfinished basement and insanely narrow driveway with a gate in the middle making it even narrower. It has been harder to teach our son how to back out of the garage in a straight line than to teach him to parallel park in a tight spot! Thank heavens for cars with side mirrors that fold in when bumped. I've bumped ours three times this week, and I've been navigating this driveway for well over a decade.

9 years of on and off remodeling and I can't think of anything else to improve. We now get to love this place.

oh, how about it is -5F and I have 6 inches of snow to shovel. That's pretty terrible.

Wow Great Place -- so much brown!! I don't know how I would ever really feel clean in that bathroom. The floors might be workable with the right accessories,, but the sink, tub, and bidet (yes?) are just noooo.

Don'tcha just feel my pain? It's hideous! I had hoped to have this GONE within a year of moving in, but even more fun things like replacing the roof, furnace and heat pump took precedence, and we are approaching the 5 year mark of living with this horrid bathroom. Joy.

SO for all you Houzzers who think designers must have glamorous homes, I say no, we have homes just like most people, with renos waiting to be done, funds waiting to be saved, dreams waiting to come to fruition, and the most horribly icky brown bathroom ever!

@Wow: I notice the off-white toilet doesn't match the rest of your lovely brown fixtures. Maybe if you got a brown toilet it would pull the whole thing together! Walls could be painted a brown color (or deep yellow!) as well for a designer look.

In all seriousness, I am intrigued by the shaded floor tiles in the basketweave layout.

@soberg, actually, that is a beige toilet seat, the toilet is the same brown as the other fixtures. I have searched high and low for something better that would not stand out so much, but they don't make toilet seats in that poop brown anymore.
Also, I figured, its like putting lipstick on a pig!
Making small changes won't make this bathroom less ugly, so if I continue to hate it, it will motivate me to get this done faster!

The picture makes the floor tiles look better than in real life. I also like the basketweave pattern, makes a simple tile look more intriguing, but it is still one UUUUgly tile! (it's the same tile they used for the shower walls)

I will be so happy to post progress pics when this project gets rolling! Houzzers can follow along as I take joy in blasting this stuff back to the 70's!

We have a lovely but small-walk-in-closet. Unfortunately, the builder made the closet door open IN...only half the closet is easily accessible. A minor inconvenience for all the other well-done amenities.

My home lacks a laundry room, instead I have a laundry "closet", just enough room inside the bifold doors for a washer and dryer. I also am lacking a mudroom. Not such a good thing for a house with elementary age kids.

Wow great place- our family bath originally had a much darker brown toilet, sink and tub. Before I invested in a total renovation, I pulled out the toilet, bought a new vanity that came with an off white sink and had the bathtub reglazed . I just couldn't use those dark brown fixtures, they totally freaked me out. Our recent renovation is white appliances and carrera marble , so much better

Electrical system/set up and wiring is stupid. Have to walk through kitchen to get lights to turn on and even then you have to "coax" them to turn on. Redoing whole house/property wiring is not a weekend project. :(

Dangerous for someone like me to get asked that question. I'm such a complainer-it's so awful. I moved into my house almost two years ago with my husband and 2 teenagers. We were "downsizing" from a 5500 sq ft home to a 2700 sq ft. This was to be our 5 year plan while plowing extra money away for college. We both agreed that we wouldn't put any money into the house because it was nice enough to live in for 5 years. Well we are almost two years in and so far we have refinished the basement beautifully because we wanted a place for our boys to hang out with their friends. We have put in a paver patio in the back of the house so that we could enjoy outdoor fires like we used to. We also put in about 100 trees because we missed the privacy we used to have. There are a few other things we did as well. Now we are ripping out the entire kitchen ( even moving load bearing walls to reconfigure space) and putting in hardwood floors, granite, expensive cabinets and high end appliances. We are confident that college funds will still be there, but we are definitely sick people. I've always been this way- never happy. I wish I could just find my happy place already!!!

Wish I had a second bedroom.

My worst nightmare is when the elevators go out! There is no way I can climb 12 flights of stairs. It rarely happens and I've lucky to be stuck inside instead of outside.

Single worst feature? The institution that allowed the licensing of the architect & builder!

My home's worse feature? The AC/heat unit in the attic, too hot to go up in the summer, but junior architect who designed house put it there.

That my loo is opposite my front door. Generally I love what my architect's done - but not sure what he was thinking with that one :)

We have a laundry room at the entrance of our home. What were they thinking? I know it shares plumbing with the kitchen, but sorted laundry actually ends up at the front door. I like to hang laundry to dry which is awkward right next to the front hall. Keeping the door closed isn't an option because the kitchen trash can is in there along with some food storage.

Extremely tiny walk in closets in master bedroom /bathroom along with a very sunken bathtub shower. All will be ripped out and remodeled this summer

Two story entry and living room with two AC/heating units. Impossible to have a consistent temp in all rooms of the house. It is beautiful tho.

3 things; detached carriage house/garage in way-upstate north country; laundry 'area' in basement; mudroom/rear entry in desperate need of renovation.

The fact that this was a 'trailer' ("modular" = doublewide) and it suckered me into having to start with replacing all the joists; then subfloor, then as long as I'm at it deal with the windows that are literally falling out, the too inadequate wiring.... just sucked me in it did.

Have been unhappy since day one about our tiny postage stamp 'foyer' in our split entry in Minneapolis that requires a pileup of boots, etc. 6 months out of the year. No room to expand into garage since it is a one car and little storage. To build out will require easement by city, ugh, can't bring ourselves to struggle with that one.

Not much to complain about.....It if I had to, I would love a pocket door in my laundry room instead of the regular door....it gets in the way. Probably something we could fix in the future, though. My biggest complaint is that it's in the Southern California desert. Wish I could move it to Northern Calif where I was born and raised.

It's so interesting how people are so unhappy with things that to me i wish i had. or problems that i can understand are annoying but can be learned to just be accepted and to be happy with.

Washer and dryer in master bath..no way to close off..with small children found it useful...however, when anyone sees my otherwise lovely master bath the comment is always the same..washer and dryer in bathroom, how awful...Ive had w&d in kitchen, breakfastnook, panrty, front hall, garage, outdoor storage bldg and of course "down the street" to me this is the best yet and yet no one can see beyond. ?"a w&d in this beautiful bath, how distracting"

Wish I had a powder room at pool end of house, it isn't that big of a deal though. We have functioned fine through our 2 boys and a few grandchildren

I hate this island in the middle of my downstairs area for the powder room and pantry. You walk smack into it when you enter the house. And it places the powder room right by the kitchen.

No real soundproofing.

Luckily this isn't that big of a deal since it's just my husband and myself, plus we live in a quiet neighborhood on 2 acre lots.

However, working from home I really wish the walls and doors had better soundproofing when we're both on meetings. Also, it's awkward being able to hear people in the bathrooms. I also worry people outside can hear us if they're in the driveway or right beside the house because I can hear my husband on the phone or gaming when I'm outside near the office exterior walls.

We love our condo, but the laundry closet is very small, and the door jam prevents the dryer from opening all the way. The laundry cannot be moved. It was a stacked configuration, but the previous owners unstacked them. Hopefully when I can replace them we’ll get something that fits better.

I wish my front entryway was a bit wider.
