Hi. I am renovating a 1940 colonial in the north east. Unfortunately, that era has lower ceilings than I like. On the second floor I am vaulting the ceilings into the attic space, but on the first floor, I am thinking of making the ceilings as you have done here to make it feel a bit more open. I have a couple of questions, what was the painting method you used and how was the sound from people walking on the upper floor?

The ceilings were sprayed by a professional painter. The noise transmission will be greater between the floors when you removed the plaster from the ceiling. Thanks for inquiring.

You can get similar light fixtures at most hardware stores for < $2. Chrome tip bulbs are simple to find as well.
