We can make this work!

1) Move the sectional to be centered on the tv.
2) Move the sectional a little closer to tv
3) You need a larger rug of a different color, but for now, make sure the rug is moved to sit within the L of the sectional.
4) Place the chair on the left side of the tv, angled
5) Do you have another chair? Would be nice on the other side of tv.
6) Put the ottoman in the open area of the sectional. Current ottoman is not working. What color are you trying to introduce. Is it green? It is fading away.
7) You need end tables by the sectional. Do you have any?
8) Remove art from above tv. Too distracting.
(9) Need long piece of art for the wall opposite window.
10) Remove vase from tv.
11) Bookcase needs rearranging. Let's do furniture first.
12) Possible sofa table behind sectional. Do you have one?

Can you mov the furniture and repost pics?

Do you want to go monochromatic or do you want a pop of color? What color do you want? I am seeing a little red, blue, green, but nothing is working together.

No art near tv,put elsewhere. Put in another chair to balance. The following things bring a room to life- real flowers, pets, books, handcrafts,musical instruments, a loved one. Not necessarily in that order.

I was going for green as accent colour but I agree with you that the green in the ottoman is a bit faded. Also agree that the rug is small for the area.
What should I do with the little table to the right of the TV unit? Move it to be by the side of the sofa or leave it there to balance the chair?

I could not see the table, but I would put it by the chair for now. Next to the sectional, it looks like you would have space only for slimline tables.

We can work on accents. The green you have in the ottoman and afghan is just too faded to be noticed and the art is just not doing anything. How about those 2 pillows with aqua in them. Let's use them and go from there.

I like your art a lot but I think the shape doesn't work well. I would move it either on another wall or next to the TV. I also think that you could make a beautiful reading nook in the corner with your lamp and the chair (or another chair).

The space feels cramped to me. If it were my house, I would switch the locations of the couch and chair to make the space feel more open and welcoming. Then I would move the art from above the TV to the left of it, same height. Next, I would replace the greenish ottoman with a low-profile rectangular coffee table. Finally, I would buy another chair to sit next to the current chair, maybe in a contrasting color (dark).

It seems to be a consensus that the artwork needs to go.
Having the sofa facing the deck (sliding doors) appeals to me. This was actually my first instinct when arranging the furniture, but it makes a bit awkward watching TV, I reckon. I'll try anyway to see how it feels and re-post. Thanks JJ.

Your chaise is on the wrong side for the sofa to work on the long wall. I would leave it facing the TV. Pull it forward and pull the rug back so they meet.

Move the chair to the window wall and angle it toward the TV.

Move the art to the long wall and see if you can dig up some more framed pictures to go with. Try Ikea for affordable art to fill that wall for now.

If you had no tv in the room, the sectional on the wall would work. With the tv, it is just not going to work. My humble opinion.

The sectional where it is (moved forward a bit) actually defines the space. I think once you move it as Grover Axle and I suggested, you will like it.

But, I think you should give any arrangement that appeals to you a try. Post pics, see how it feels and then you can decide.

There is a lot of potential here and cdrdesign gave some great suggestions. Moving everything in closer together will help. My only thought was painting the walls just a touch darker so the room has some warmth. This will bring out the wood floors, make your curtains stand out etc.

Paint would help. What are the tones of your other rooms in the house. They need to work with this room.

I like grover's pics. Maybe add a little color to the walls.

I know you love the ottoman, but is it way out in left field here. Could it work in your bedroom? I see no wood or metal in your space (maybe chair legs. Is that purposeful?

If you really love the ottoman maybe you can paint the wall behind the tv in a similar shade of green as an accent wall? Then all you need is a few new accent pillows which aren't very expensive. As for furniture placement, I agree with all of cdrdesign's suggestions. Below are some pics of rooms with a green accent wall. (One of them is a bedroom photo but I was loving the hot pink accents with the green wall). I think it would look great. Good luck!

I'm with absf -- I would prefer having the couch looking out into the back yard. If tv is really important, can it fit along the short wall next to the slider, or could you put it in that corner, situated at an angle? Otherwise, you just need to relocate the artwork (the "tower" of entertainment center, tv, art looks odd currently) and enhance the wall color. It looks like a nice bright room, and your built-in white shelf and your light, neutral furniture allow you to go pretty dark or bold on the walls, if you want. You have nice stuff and great flooring.

Change the lamps, way to nondescript and small. I agree paint the long wall a great color.Move TV and stand to long wall, put sectional where TV is now and get one more chair and put the chairs where the sectional is now. Hang the art above sectional but way lower on the wall. A good rule of thumb for art is the center of the piece should be about 65" from the floor.If you love the ottoman I would use it somewhere else in the house and get a coffee table in front of sectional and a table between the chairs. as for the rug pick it out before you paint the big wall and use a color in the rug. Ikea has great rugs and they don't cost the earth.

Yes I have moved the couch closer to the TV, bringing the rug under its legs. I'll post pictures tonight.
Because the room is so big, now there is quite a large area behind the couch, which I can fill with a sofa table. I have moved the artwork to the other wall.
I agree with "A Crew of Two"'s comment regarding wall colour. Its just too white.
All the first floor has white walls. I have just finished re-painted the whole upstairs with "Grand Piano"

Hi absf sweetie, I believe your couch chaise part is wrong. The cut out part needs to be in front of the arm. So either flip the cushion or put it on the left side Pretty room. :)

I really like the space, a few extra little detail will finalize it. I would hang large scale artwork or mirror on the left wall. I would also place a tray and a few decorative items on your ottoman /coffee table
