As you walk into our home from the front door, this weird area is directly overhead. If you continue straight you walk up the stairs.... I would like to remove this useless area and just leave it open from the bottom floor to the 2nd floor ceiling. Can it be done or is that floor area necessary? Has anybody removed it before? Do you have any before and after pics? Does anybody know what that useless area is called? Help please!! Thanks!
