Care for bluestone tabletop?

We recently purchased a bluestone topped table. We were told it was durable like granite. The first night we used it, we put a water glass down and a ring formed that actually etched the surface. The company will replace the table but we want the same one. Does anyone know what we can treat it with to prevent this from happening again?

I just bought a "new" (used) bluestone Luca rectangular table made by Arhuas, and I'm wondering what the best products are for cleaning/protecting/sealing? I called Arhaus and they mentioned Rock Doctor, but any others that might work better? It's not in terrible shape, but from reading the comments here, I feel like I'm in for a nightmare with what might happen with my 2 school aged boys (water rings, spills, etc). It kind of sounds like a bad idea to buy bluestone with kids at all! This table has some streaking and marks on the top (the owner used the wrong kind of cleaner which created the marks). I hope we are not selling this in a month, if it is not very practical for everyday family use. Any great results with Rock Doctor, anyone? It's specifically for granite, but I'm assuming this will work for bluestone just the same - ??

Actually, here is a website the previous owner of our table sent me, there is some info on cleaning products specifically for this Luca bluestone table. Maybe it will help some of you on this thread, as a few products are mentioned.

Found a product that has made my bluestone look infinitely better! STONE SPECIFIC STONE ENHANCER AND SEALER All Stone. Had used various stone CLEANERS which did nothing to remove water stains, etc as described by everyone above. This is a stone ENHANCER which made the water stains and other marks disappear and the stone looks nourished and “healthy”. I rubbed on several “coats” and it does leave a light oily type film (nothing objectionable though) but I am so happy at the improved looks that I will deal with that...maybe it will soak into stone over days? We’ll see how it performs over time but for now I am very happy! He beauty of the stone shines through! Yay!!!

Is the stone specific product sold only in Canada? I can’t seem to

    find it!

I’m pretty sure I bought it in a Home Depot in FL. Here’s a photo...

    Thank you!

Should I use this weekly to keep the shine? My table has many water marks.

I can’t say as I used it in a guest bath that is rarely used so not the same as a frequently used counter. I can only say I have put any more on since that first application and it still has an oiled glossy look...but I may put another light coat on soon. Did you use it? Did it improve the look of your stone?

After more than 7 years I have the answer! My Arhaus Luca table with a bluestone top etched, stained and scratched from day 1. We just learned to live with it although it looked bad and it never looked clean. Whatever coating was on the stone is what was etching, not the stone itself. I sprayed on a 50/50 mix of Dawn and white vinegar, let it sit a bit then rubbed the table in circular motions with ultra fine steel wool then wiped clean. I did this several times over gone course if a few days. It looked worse (white-ish) before it got better. It’s now clear of all the marks. I am thinking of getting it professionally coated with a product like Hydro seal but I kind of like the un-coated, matte look it has now.

fascinating! How'd you decide to get the coating off? We had an arhaus bluestone coffee table that was awful - i really want the luca table, and my husband is freaking out. I'm wondering if we do this from day 1 will stop the issues before they happen!

I have a honed bluestone dining table that doesn't have any issues. It's smooth somewhat matt top does not have scratches or stains. However, I have a dark natural shinny bluestone coffee table by Uttermost that has swirls of scratches that can only be noticed when certain light hits it, otherwise it looks glossy with an even shine. I've tried different waxes and polish to buff out the swirled scratches, but nothing works. I think these swirls might have been caused by the original polishing technique. Does anyone have any suggestions or comments regarding this type of bluestone?

Early on, when I first got hand table I was agonizing over whether I should keep it because if the staining issues. Arhaus discontinued the base color that we had so we couldn’t replace it. I had stone companies come out to evaluate thinking a professional could buff it out or sand it down. One of the professionals suggested that it might be the wax coating that was the problem and recommended I try Strip eze. I bought the Strip Eze but was afraid it could do permanent harm and didn’t really want to use harsh chemicals in my kitchen. Recently I was looking for a natural alternative to cleaning my shower and found the Dawn/vinegar concoction to cut through soap scum and it worked great. So I thought I’d give it a try on the table and it worked! My friend got the Luca table recently and said she is not having any problems with etching or staining. I think they may have changed how they seal the table so it might be safe to get now.

Good to know! I'm saving your post just to be safe, but think I'm pulling the trigger on it. I love the look and I can't find it anywhere else! Fingers' crossed :) appreciate your response.

Is that the Arhaus Luca, Carleen W. ? We just bought the Luca and already have scratches

@carleenwastaferro does the baby oil soak in? how often do you apply it? my Luca is in terrible shape from the minute we bought it. top shows every watermark &scratch. i’m so disappointed with arhaus.
if i use baby oil to restore it, then what do i clean it with?

We purchased the Luca dining table from Arhaus almost 5 years ago. It had permanent smear marks and a couple of places where something had eaten through in spots, maybe lemon juice. It looked awful. We sanded off all of the finish with an orbital palm sander. Looks so much better now. We are trying to figure what if any kind of top coat to put on to protect it.

I’ve had the Arhaus Luca round table for 7 years now. Although it does require constant care (as in, we always use placemats, coasters are immediately put down if we have company over, spills are wiped immediately etc.) I still have no regret whatsoever purchasing it because it really is beautiful and a unique kitchen table that catches your eye. There really is not much to clean if you stay on top of using placemats when eating. I have a child so it’s become a habit over the years to use them. Most nights I use a microfiber cloth lightly wet but mostly dry, to wipe it down afterwards. Besides that, I have only ever used what the company had recommended to me 7 years ago- Rock Doctor cleaner and RD Polish. I use the cleaner 1-2 times a week Approx. and I polish it once a month maybe, sometimes every other month. Follow the directions, that makes a huge difference If you do.

I look at my furniture as an investment so just like a new car I take care of it well.

Oh also, on the wooden base portion I use lemon oil. Its truly a Beautiful piece of furniture.

Thank you for this information @cocobetty1311 I got my Luca table 2 weeks ago and wish I had found this thread sooner. We already have a water glass mark and I am so frustrated. I also thought it would be more durable than it is. I did not receive any information upon delivery from Arhaus. So glad I found this thread. Hope I can get the mark off.

I bought one second-hand, and after discovering the downfalls (it is NOT kid-friendly, or easy maintenance) I resold it. It is pretty, but way too difficult and stressful to own with kids who will eventually not use placemats for their cups, or spill, etc. I tried to clean it with the Arhaus recommended stone cleaners (Rock Doctor) many times, nothing worked. You will need to hire professional movers if you sell this table - it is VERY heavy. That was another thing I disliked about it - I could not easily move the thing in order to really clean the floor/rug beneath it. Good luck - there are a lot of good recommendations here for treating stains. Overall, just not worth the headaches for me (and I don't give up easily on furniture I love). For some people without kids, it might be worth it. Just know it will be work, regardless.

@cocobetty1311 where do you get the cleaner and polish? when i bought my table they did not recommend any specific products. and my table is a mess!

A cleaner and polish won’t solve your issue on the stone like that. You need a product that acts as a sacrificial layer eliminating staining and etching

@leds99 find a local StoneGuard dealer

To follow up - I did buy one this june, and I wonder if they've changed the surface treatment? It's totally different than my coffee table was! This one, so far (knock on wood!), is like teflon. No water stains. Nothing marking it. I have two 8-yr-olds, and so far, no issues at all. I love it! it does look different than my last bluestone from Arhaus, though - so they must've changed something.

@Laura Soder it is interesting that you have not had problems. I purchased a Luca table in June and wihtin the first 2 days there was a horrible water stain. Since then every drop of salad dressing, liquid that has touched it has made a mark regardless of how quickly we reacted to cleaning it. I am getting it replaced and hoping the next is better but planning to have it sealed to prevent a problem.

Surprisingly, still no issues 7 months out for us. Hopefully you have better luck w/ your 2nd one!

I have the Bluestone top Luca from Arhaus. Have had a year and baby it which is annoying to my family. I still have a few scratches and a curved mark that came from putting a room temperature bowl on the table! I use Rock Doctor products which I assume help.
Has anyone added a glass top to the Luca to preserve the stone’s aesthetic? Is that old fashioned? I need to do something!

Find a local StoneGuard dealer. It’s an invisible protective film for the stone. Looks great and it’s cheap enough of an option!

We have a Pottery Barn coffee table and end table with a bluestone top. We have so many water marks, glass ring marks etc. on both of these surfaces. The furniture is 5 years old and is so stained. Trying to find a good cleaning product to remove the stains. Anyone else have this furniture from Pottery Barn? if so, anyone find a solution to this problem?

Final Seal Pro, My area does not have a StoneGuard dealer. Is there another like product? My next step will be to contact a stone fabricator to see what they recommend.

This table (luca from arhaus)is going to get scratches and water stains, we have had ours for about 4 years with two little ones. i feel like over time some of the water stains and scratches went away but new ones always came. we got used to it and j hse a stone cleaner by stone care international to clean it daily which doesnt leave any new marks but cant really get anything out. at first i was annoyed but now we have grown used to it. the other day our nanny sprayed lysol, now it has a bunch of splotches, nothing we can do…still we like the look of it, the feel of the cool stone is calming and the shape fits our dining room even with 8 chairs …the arhaus reps have no idea, how kid/user unfriendly this table is. we thought about a glass top but didnt like the look of it and to get a custom shape would have been too expensive anyway.

We just got our bluestone table delivered and it has a couple of small spots on it. I'm trying to decide how to clean them - any suggestions? I've also ordered a glass top to put on but haven't gotten it yet.

I am terrified reading all these posts about the Arhaus Bluestone table as I have one on order scheduled to arrive n a few weeks!

Not the best choice for a kitchen table. i cleaned as recommended finish removed covered with glass top

We bought an expensive blue stone table crom Arhaus. Same thing happened to us . Every thing stains the table who wants a table loke that! Arhaus won’t stand behind it we will never buy anything there again

Wow!! i feel so much better! I was so disappointed with my Arhaus Luca dining table. i have the same exact problem. literally a few days after delivery, a perfectly round water stain appeared and a small oval condiment stain. It won't come off with regular dawn and water. Now i see a nick or scratch and have no idea where that came from. i do have two kids but they don't use the table much as we have counter seating also. I thought the "so-called" protective coating was to prevent normal wear and tear. I am going to try baking soda and water and/or my stone cleaner. For the price, i did not expect the issues and want it to stay as lovely as possible. Thanks for the comments!

Our bluestone dining table was purchased at Haverty’s about 8-9 years ago. It’s not a product that Haverty’s sells any longer, so we’ve just been trying to keep it looking decent by using a product called “Oz” creamy furniture polish. It looks just okay after being cleaned/polished; but placemats or wicker hot pads leave an imprint in the finish. I’ve been interested in a glass top, but hubby doesn’t like the look and thinks it would be too expensive. Any ideas for other options??

I purchased a bluestone-topped desk from Restoration Hardware several years ago. It's held up well except for some rings from water glasses. Any suggestions? I have never used anything on it but microfiber dust clothes and occassionaly warm water.
