I would be always very hesitant to put any kind of white marble into a kitchen, and i always told my clients so. Any light marble or Travertine, however well sealed, will show any kind of watermark, even from a glass of water, or a dish that comes straight out from the dishwasher. As a porous materials it is very easily staines by vinegar and wine.
There are white granites out there that might be an alternative, and Cambria brought out a manmade Quartz that is mimicking marble - not quite the real thing, but pretty good, and it saves the homeowner from a lot of aggrevation.
I occassionally put marble on a bathroom vanity, it doesn't seem to become such a huge issue as on an island, where you have light coming in from the side, which shows off any kind of stain.

Dupont offers a 15 year guarantee against stains on all marble and granite tops. You need to speak to your fabricator about it. And it is at an additional cost. However, in our opinion well worth it.

So beautiful! Great Job! I was wondering, I really like the look of marble and looked at the quartz but the quartz was even more expensive than marble? Also I was wondering if honed absolute black granite would show scratches? Really would love to know, as I'm wanting marble and honed black granite in my kitchen, but I do not want to go through such an expense and have them look all scratched in a few months, patina great, scratches not so much. Thank you.

Honed absolute black granite is the WORST material to use for a kitchen counter. I had a young client who wanted to use it for a wonderful modern kitchen. Even after being sealed really well the stone shows even watermarks - like a clean plate taken out of the dishwasher! Needless to say - the client was very disappointed within a few dys of the installation. Sorry about that - I really wish things would be different.
Funilly enough one of the quartz manufacturers came actually up with a quartz that mimicks the honed black - and the rep who showed me the sample saw my eyes lighten up because I thought I had finally found a good substitute for the real thing.... She literally begged me not ever to use it because it is so high maintenance.

Try looking at Super White granite. Look at a full slab, not a small sample. I am currently looking for granite for my new kitchen ( white cabinets) and I was looking for the Carrera look in granite. The super white I looked at it sooooo close and beautiful. I actually have 4 slabs on hold until the other one I loved comes in so I can compare ( the other one is called Fantasy Brown- not brown at all, similar to Carrera but e few soft brown veins through it). Good luck, I found the granite to be the most difficult decision.
