Basement Makeover

Just bought an Arts & Craft style home in DC - built in 1921. Basement had a small "kitchen" (using that term loosely) and linoleum tiles that were in bad shape. Refurnished the kitchen (new sink, sanded/stain counter, updated appliances, refinished cabinets), installed laminate flooring, carpet, new baseboards, and fresh paint everywhere. Took about 3 months working in the evening after work. It's our first home and so never done anything like this. Looked at a lot of pictures on Houzz and watched a lot of youtube videos! My brother and I did everything except for the carpet installation. Now looking to find a tenant!

I know it felt like a long three months, but it is beautiful and you should be very proud! You should be able to find a tenent soon - I'd snap it up in a minute - it's a great space. Good luck! :)

Like the soft blues and kitchen appliances, although that is a big fridge. Would lower the exhaust fan. Do you have enough lighting and cabinets. You know girls need storage. Hope you get a good tenant. You have a nice apt.

Ha - no, need for that. Basement has a separate laundry room with full washer/dryer (plus a full bathroom and separate bedroom).

Thanks rinqreation - didn't really have a choice with the fridge - a single door refrigerator didn't have enough room for the door to open between the counter. So had to go with a side by side and that was the best available (at a reasonable price). I know fridge looks big but really the kitchen is just small.

i really like and don't want to sound negative but if refidge was moved to the wall and a 12"counter put in it would look less cramped while at stove cooking :)

@hr01 - Completely agree with you - there are lots of configurations that would make it feel/look less cramped. Issue is that putting in a new, smaller counter would be a major reconfiguration (sink, under counter cabinets, etc.). Was trying to get this done in a nice, yet time and cost effective way. Good news is that as of mid-December has been rented out (and covering 60% of my mortgage)
