    Red lower cabinets.

I have one very red wall in my tiny very white kitchen along with many red accents on the open shelving cabinet.

Hello quittyme. I have been thinking of painting my upper cabinets red, and the lower cabinets black. I think I would really like it, but have not been able to commit. Do you ever regret painting your upper and lower cabinets different colors? I think your cabinets look great. My walls are silver, my floors are black and white check. I have a diner theme. I have a pic posted above.

Leisa2424 -- try taking a photograph of your cabinets...print... and "Sharpie" in your red and black...even if the red isn't an exact match to the paint you will choose, it will give you a good idea if it will be something you will like. I think it sounds like a good idea, tho'!

That is genius. I will do that today. Thanks so much.

Great, Leisa! You can also take an Exacto knive and cut the cabinets out of the photo, then put paint chips of your red shades in the open cut out space.

We have some red in our curtains and pillows...it is totally energizing atmosphere around.

    So glad you asked;-)

Hi Tiffany. I just wanted to thank you for the great ideas, about using the sharpies and the paint chips. I tried both, and I am going to go for it. I have been on the fence, for quite awhile, and it feels good, to finally have the confidence to paint my cabinets red and black.

Yay, Leisa! So glad it helped! Really, the worst case scenario with paint is you re-paint! But, at least this gave you a bit of a visual perspective before diving in. I'm very confident you will love the re-do! You may think it is overkill, but when painting 'red', three coats will give you the best results...it will give you the richest depth of color. Please post before & afters!

Tiny red powder room. "Crimson" by Benjamin Moore
  • 11 years ago
Leisa, I did not watch the painters when my powder room was done, but I was told they used a gray primer as this is recommended prior to painting red walls. I don't know why! The wall color was light-(BM Bleeker Beige) so it wasn't like they were having to cover dark paint first. Thought I would mention this. Good luck!
BTW the paint in my powder room has orange undertones - not blue- so it further confused me as to the gray primer. But it turned out great.

Leisa/weatherwife -- Yes, I forgot to mention using a primer earlier. I'm not familiar with the "gray" approach, but you can get a red tinted primer which would be very beneficial if you are unsure of the gray.

At our house Santa likes to sit down and take a rest.

Red cardinals are found throughout my family room. At Christmas the tree has almost 50 red birds adorning it. Early mornings the real cardinals chatter at the feeder outside my kitchen window.

I let my son decide his wall colour. He chose Red Bauble to match his favourite footy team's colours.

Lovely home. Where did you get the lampshade?
    Love your lampshade!
The lamp and shade is from a local decor store, Laurie's in Tomball, TX. I purchased a pair of these lamps about 5 years ago. When the light is on, the lining shows, which is an animal print. Wasn't sure if I liked it or not, but have gotten used to it.
My sister gave me a wonderful lamp with a lampshade. The shade has 6 panels, each with a different animal print and lined with crystal fringe. I wasn't sure if it was the tackiest lampshade I had ever seen or marvelous. I too have gotten used to it and, in fact, have grown quite fond of it. It is an unexpected piece in my living room. I always am tickled when I see a surprised look on the faces of those who see it for the first time.
