I really like the towel bars in the glass but only if it works with the overall design of the room.

We're all about the aesthetic on this one. While we're in total agreement with your husband from a functionality issue, the challenge of installing a towel rack on a glass door and having it look good (glue, level, material) are daunting for all but the very best installers. If there is a very large, deliberate, towel hook or rack just outside the shower door, obviously within arm's reach, then that would be my vote. Make them big, and make a statement. If you must, use a horizontal bar and find a great contractor:


And have you thought about a towel warmer, instead? Husbands like those :)

Thanks. I am not sure how I would describe the design of the room. I am attaching some pics of the bathroom in question. Notice that the glass shower enclosure/door has not yet been installed.

Just wanted to add that the glass enclosure will also go on top of the tub surround which becomes a shower seat.

Is a towel bar really not as esthetically pleasing as a door pull? Is that a consensus? I ask that because I definitely see many more vertical pulls than horizontal towel bars in photographs on Houzz. Do most people choose beauty over function in this case?

I have just the round pull to open and close the door. I have a towel bar on the wall just outside the shower. Even though we have the "shower guard" applied to reduce water marks, you still need to squeegee after each shower. I always like to think about the ease of cleaning. I'm still trying to figure out how people clean behind those free standing bath tubs!
