I'm pretty sure your stove's manual would have the clearance requirements. If you don't have the manual anymore it is probably on the manufacturer's web-site.

If this is a free standing range that your sliding into the opening there is usually the required clearance for heat dissipation between the finished side panel and the oven chamber proper. If it is a slide in model, the frame provides you the clearance again from the cabinet end and the oven chamber. Besides that, most oven chambers are constructed with a inner box, insulation and then an outer box. I would be more worried about the "snugness" resulting in damage to the cabinet sliding the either type unit in and out during the installation and in the event you have to any service work done in the future.......even the best brands occasionally require service.

Just how snug is snug........can you be more specific? 1/16", 1/8", 3/32" on each side or are you talking your unit is say 32" wide and your space is 32" wide exactly?

My next question would be why didn't your cabinet designers / installers confirm the space required in the pre-installation planning..........

Thanks for the great info. My contractor did spec the opening correctly, however, I guess I have never had a custom kitchen before so the gap has always been wider and looking at it I had panicked.

The gap is about 1/16" on each side. This will hopefully eliminate any debris between the oven and the cabinet. Thanks again for the great info.
