Love everything, but Is that a gap between the windows and countertop?

Could you comment on what appears to me as a gap between the counter top and the back windows? Thanks.

I'm confused also. How does the granite countertop fit against the beautiful windows?

The granite does not fit against the windows, there is a gap. We extended the window sill to butt against the back of the cabinets, so if something should slip over the back of the countertop it will not fall to the floor. The home's front facade had several matching window groupings, so changing the window configuration was not under consideration.

You can see the back of the cabinets from outside?

The gap is a space for flower/herb pots. There is a drain for excess water.
