IMO, unless there is a universal metal finish such as slate available to all large and small appliance manufacturers, then slate will go by way of Avocado, Harvest Gold and Coffee. As you can see, all the appliances you would need are not available in slate. There are so many manufacturers offering a variety of appliances that the need for a common thread is important...stainless steel has been that connection.

Look into panel-ready appliances...DW, refrigerator, compactor, under counter frig, hood etc. They can take on the color of the cabinetry and not be an issue. However, you are still faced with the range/cooktop and/or wall ovens.

Yes!! We love grey and find that it's softer on the eye, richer and moves seamlessly into any style! I'd say do it.

I, too, am planning a remodel and want to use the new slate appliances. A year later after the initial comment above and still no new products in this finish. I'm wanting to accent with hammered copper so that will be my sink and hopefully vent hood. Now if only I could find an under cabinet ice machine...guess I'll stick with black and see if GE offers slate in a sheet to recover???

It scratches and the slate is only a powdered finish and can't be repaired.

Stainless steel scratches too and it dents. The only appliance color that doesn't is Black ,white and bisque color. I just think you have to be careful and in a department store moving the appliances back and forth your going to see them all beat up. It doesn't necessarily mean it would happen in your home . I think the SLATE appliance will not scratch as easy as the stainless steel.

What color cabinets do you have with the slate appliances? I am am getting ready to order the stainless but that no fingerprint thing is so tempting.

I think slate is risky for the reasons Scott Designs mentioned. However, if you love it, go for it. Just be aware it likely won't have the same appeal as stainless steel when you do sell the house. And yes...scratching is an issue.

I think the slate looks AMAZING ! I think when you sell your house with these appliances it would do great. A lot of people are sick of stainless steel and some do not like them ,like myself. It is considered high end appliance just because of the unique color and elegance .Besides the first comment on the SLATE color was from 2013 the slate IS available in all appliances now and you can mix it with stainless steel if you choose to , because of the stainless trimmings it has.
