I don't see any furniture, just a table.

The first thing I would do is pull that desk out from the wall and put a chair behind it so you face into the room.

I take that back. I think I might move the desk to the alcove (facing out) and put the treadmill straight on facing the TV.

If you hadn't already wired it, I'd say move the treadmill to the opposite corner and put the TV in the alcove. But you did. Wire it. Already.

Working with feng shui, you want your desk placed so you can directly see whoever is entering the room. Never have your back to an entrance - bad energy and leaves you vulnerable to the unknown.

We just decided to move the treadmill from the room, it just looks funny with both. I have only one piece of furniture so far, and I like the idea of putting it in the alcove facing out. What should we do withy the rest of the room? We are thinking of adding a big brown leather chair and a large picture ( should that go over the desk or on the big wall? Help please :)

A couple of questions: how will this space be mostly used? Is this a serious working office, or a casual bill-paying/surf-the-net kind of office?

It's a fairly large room. One chair and one picture ain't gonna cut it, if you want it to be homey and comfortable. (I'm guessing you bought this great house and this is a bedroom you really don't need and you're trying to find a purpose for it. How close did I come?)

Groveraxle, you are the best! I do have a real office chair that I will use, it is black leather. Do you think I could use one picture behind the desk or is it better to have multiple? I'm thinking one beach scene that is 42"x 42" or so...

Also, we want to do track lighting on the ceiling and we're planning on putting desk against the wall. do you think the desk would look awful if it faced the wall?

I am never a fan of desks facing the wall, especially if you have the space to face out. I think a single piece of art is fine as long as it's not too small. See what you think:

So, if the desk faces out, per the picture you created for us, how do you think we should set up furniture to face the tv?? I was thinking big comfy chairs, or maybe a love seat/small couch? Also, what should I do on the wall that is not he other side of the desk... Another picture? The tv will hang on wall at back of room. Thanks!

If I understand this room: I see the desk near the entry door, facing out from where the pile of cables are on the floor. That wall could hold a credenza or bookshelves behind the desk. Person sitting at the desk would be directly facing the tv at the opposite end of the room.

For seating for the tv, comfort for viewing is the key. Two chairs would work, as long as tv is just for the two of you. Small sofa or sectional might work also. What is the width at that end?

You can use blue painters tape on the floor and walls to try out arrangements and flow.

In this picture, imagine the fireplace is the wall mounted tv. A low back sectional would work well. Put your feet up on the "coffee table".

Or a low back sofa with an attached chaise.

Or two super comfortable lazy boy chairs:

hellotara, I don't know what size those frames are, but the idea is to fill the area on that wall. An economical way to do it is to buy Ikea frames with mats-- http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00078051/ and http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80243542/ --enough to fill the wall depending on which size you get. Then just pop a picture in each one and make yourself a gallery wall.

You can use your own photos, or pictures from National Geographic, or old calendar pictures. Viola: a cohesive, modern gallery wall. The picture below is from an old Wolf Kahn wall calendar you can probably find somewhere for $10 or so. I think a series of these would be fabulous.

Two renderings below: I would probably do something like this with a sofa and chair. Also, you could put your desk against the back wall facing the TV and use the alcove as shown in the second pic below:

I would position the desk so you aren't looking at a wall. Either have it so you look into the room or near a window. Have fun!

I will guess the frame size is either 12 by 16 or 11 by 14. Wait till Aaron Brothers has a great sale and stock up on the ones you like! Fun to fill with your own photos of family, your town, trips. You can tie them together by developing in sepia or black and white.
