Over the years, I’ve used several architects and designers, but I need to state, and quite emphatically so, that my experience in renovating my kitchen with architects Stefanie Werner and David Burdett of DAS Studio, working in coordination with Paul DiPippa of DiPippa Design, which rendered the most exquisite cabinetry work, has been a most satisfying construction experience. DAS Studio is particularly talented both in an artistic and practical way – combining the highest level of architectural aesthetics with what themes and style are already present in the home. Constrained by some very narrow spaces, DAS redesigned my Art Deco-like kitchen as if it were a piece of furniture or a work of art, creating a sweeping flow through use of light and detail (for example, the intricate pattern of the quarter-sewn ash veneer is particularly distinctive, as are the chamfered corners of the wooden cabinets).
Werner and Burdett, who teach at the New York School of Interior Design as well, were exceedingly knowledgeable (their command of architectural design history is peerless) and always accessible -- from the creation of the drawings, the navigation of the plans through the co-op board (which praised their steadfast attention to detail), to the selection of appliances, lighting fixtures and glass tiles, even to the more mundane completion of the punch list. In the case of this project, they struck gold in securing the work of DiPippa Design, whose astonishingly beautiful woodwork detail rivals Bauhaus levels and matches their own artistic vision. If you’re looking for genuinely creative (and highly reasonable, given the attention to minute detail) architectural design, which will distinguish your kitchen (or any other room) from run-of-the-mill, cookie-cutter design and increase the value of your home, I cannot recommend DAS Studio more enthusiastically.
