Please help with new bedroom colors!

Hello!

New homeowner and new to Houzz! The wall colors in our new master bedroom don't go with our current bedding (shades of blue). Love the look that the previous owners had, but since our furniture is dark wood vs. their white, I worry that keeping the wall colors and getting coordinating bedding would make the room too dark. (And new bedding may prove a greater hassle to find than changing the paint color.)

Picture below with white furniture is the room. The blue picture shows our furniture with current bedding that will be moved in. (It's a rental - we didn't choose the blue wall colors.) Thinking of doing a light blue-gray paint (perhaps along the lines of BM Eternity?) and possibly a light rug under the bed (?) and keeping our blue bedding, but looking for suggestions since this is our first time decorating/choosing paint colors. Haven't decided if we would still have an accent wall if we repaint. Thoughts/suggestions?

pretty room! -- lots of natural light.

I like the wall color a lot, and think that you will be able to make it work. The bigger challenge is probably going to be the dark floors and the dark furniture. I see a very large bone colored area rug in your future ...

I would move in everything of yours first. The color of the current wall is not an unattractive option

I have the BM eternity in my paint fan deck...nice color. I am personally a fan of bedding from west elm. Attached are a couple ideas that would work well with BM eternity and possibly the current color on the walls.

@darlascheuer I agree - the current color is not unattractive. We were thinking it would be easier to repaint before everything gets moved in, but you're absolutely right that it would help bring some certainty to the decision to move things in first.

I think the current color is great and will look good with your furniture. Once you move in, think of getting new bedding and matching sheets to make floor to ceiling drapery panels. You might want to a a rug under your bed for comfort and to break up the dark wood tones.

I would agree about the paint colors being just fine with your furniture and the rug being an important color contrast between the bed and the floor. Here are some rug ideas that tie into what is there and possibly what you have on your bed now:

You may want to add a light colored bench at the end of your bed vs a rug. The floor flows, besides being stunning. I would not break it up with rug(s)

I would break up the dark floors and dark furniture with a rug. If you are considering using your blue bedding I would use a throw across the end of the bed in a gray/blue color and consider changing the pillow coverings to either a white or a blue/gray combo.

Why don't you go for a beautiful wallpaper on that wall behind your bed. That will give a special punch and texture in this room. Now it's easy to install and easy to take it off.

Rug was my main thought...if you do change wall color, look at BM Marilyn's Dress...great color and you get to make up a story about the name :)

Well, let's move you in now. Along with a lovely ivory Oushak. I would change the bedding to go with the current color.

You're going to love the colour just as it is. It's actually quite neutral.

I think you have a beautiful new room and really like the colors. I would definitely recommend moving in and living in the space before painting anything.

I think it's harder to find a bedspread you really love than a paint color, so if you don't like the color and you like your current bedspread, I would paint. But for me the reason for painting is my eye goes directly to the corner, where you have a lot going on - three windows meeting three different colors of paint and three different wall levels. Whatever color you choose, I would keep it simple and not do an accent wall. I think one wall color would be better. What a great room - look at all that light! Beautiful floor.

The existing colors are nice, except that i don't like the color change at the corner windows. Paint all walls the same color. Do the accent on the ceiling (If you are brave) There was an idea book a while back that showed some blue ceilings. I think this room could handle it.

Thank you, everyone! I think I've been convinced to at least move in before making any changes to the walls. The current accent wall is almost a mauve-gray and not something I'd consider a true neutral which is why I'm not sure it will go with the existing bedding, but we can give it a shot.

@dclostboy - that is a great name! :)

@groveraxle - that's awesome! I thought about trying to mock it up in Photoshop myself, but it would have taken me quite awhile given my slow Photoshop skills. Can I ask if you used PS or other software to do that? (Though the image gives too much credit to our bed which is a queen vs. the original being a king.) ;D

@egee and @flyergal, that's a very interesting point about the three colors meeting. I hadn't consciously noticed that in person, but I do see what you mean. For what it's worth, I wonder if it appears to be more of an issue than it is because of the perspective of the photo.

I love the white wall. I would continue that and loose the accent color. BM's White Dove would be a great white for the walls if you can't match the existing white. It looks great everywhere.
