Our room is fairly large. At the end of the bed there is a chaise lounge long dresses and tv. The window is big and the curtains are too dark. Need ideas for lightening. I do have a night stand on each side of the bed

I hate to say that with all the dark wood, you need contrast in the walls...they should be reprinted a much lighter color. Additionally, the drapes should be lighter, and hung high on the wall above the window. A light, interesting rug can pull your colors in your bedspread but it should be a contrast to the color of your floor. Paint is the cheapest way to change a look, and that's where I would start, if in your shoes. You're lucky you have such a nice big room and lovely furniture to start with.

You need a light color on your walls!

I'm having a difficult time figuring out your room layout, but my thought is that chaise is in an awkward location. If you want "safe", you may get away with just a plain neutral paint like Kilim Beige or Shaker Beige. This may also lessen the heaviness of your existing curtains (if you choose to keep them). Lastly, mounting the television will do wonders also. Most designers will probably tell you to remove it entirely though (but I have one in my bedroom).

Another option....you have several matching dark pieces of furniture in the room. Maybe choosing a fabric headboard for the bed would soften it as well.

The curtains are very nice....I'm just not sure whether they will compliment your existing bedding. Maybe start by painting first. That will help you better identify your true problem areas as some will disappear with a fresh cost of paint.

The easiest option in my mind is to switch out your curtains to a lighter set with a pattern. Get some lamps with light coloured shades and maybe some shine, eg silver on the base. A light coloured comforter and a couple of light pillows on the bed and maybe a floor rug. The fabric headboard was a great idea too.

I'm thinking light grey walls with those curtains and a charcoal color comforter

I would recommend using Sherwin Williams Eminence Ceiling Paint because of its high reflectivity which will allow more light to hit the walls and make the room appear bigger. Additionally, you could paint the wall opposite the window either white or a lighter version of the color of the room which will open the room up even more. Also, strategically placed lights of the right type can achieve your goals, but is a more expensive route.

Another way to go is to leave one wall the way you have it now, which relate to the colors of your furniture and paint the other walls white. See how we accomplished this for one of our clients in the photo below.

I did this same mistake myself. My way of resolving it was to find a tone in the bedding (or furniture) that was not dominant, go to the paint store and find the exact color to match, then pick a color from the set that was several shades lighter. i.e. I went from a purple to a lavender. Now the room seems much brighter.

Do you think blue walls would go with those curtains? A soft blue
