Current kitchen layout is poor and has a lot of electrical issues. We are gutting it. Replacing everything from floor to ceiling.

Wishlist/Circumstances:
- Cook and bake multiple times a day
- Growing family
- Frequently have a 2nd cook/sous chef/children helping in the kitchen
- convert window into a door to the deck
- take out walls in dining room and kitchen that divide it from the living room
- island to eat at
- pantry currently has bi-fold doors and ~ 12" deep of floor space, and then the rest is about 4' of the ground -- We would like to take the wall back to make it flush, giving an extra 12" of walking space in that area.

- XL sink (36" W)
- large fridge (33"+ W)
- dishwasher

I have attached the current and idea layouts with accurate measurements (in the second picture).

Constructive feedback/experiences would be appreciated :)

My last home had a sink and dishwasher in the island. I wished it was anywhere else every day. When you are cooking, or baking, or entertaining - the whole mess gathers in and around your sink. That will be "centre stage" in the proposed layout. Try the fridge and narrow cabintry where your pantry is, and keep the sink on the side wall. You can have cabinets with pull out drawers under your island for pantry items. Good luck! :)

Lori - The pantry is above the stairs, so nothing else can go there, as it will be 2-4 feet off the floor.
Our previous layout had the sink and dishwasher in the peninsula - I really don't mind it as I can watch over my boys as they play in the living room/visit while cleaning up. The one thing I really do not like is a two level island/peninsula as they seem to be a catch-all in this family

With the sink facing the living room (rather than in the island) there would be a ledge of some sort as a divided/barrier. I haven't yet figured out what I would do there if that was what we wanted to go with.

I did play around with the idea of putting the stove in the peninsula with a wall behind (knowing my kids), and the sink along the wall with the fridge. But again, I haven't found any inspirations for that.

Those the current measurements for our dining table and chairs, and the living room furniture. Neither are set in stone and can be changed/moved around.

Ahh - thanks for the clarification. I like the idea of a built in bench seat backing onto the pantry. Great use of space.

Lori - I thought that was a good use of space as it could make for a tight squeeze passed the dining area and island. Could change that into an L shaped bench too.

calmsea - I am having a hard time visualizing your idea.
There is no interior wall where the cooktop is now - it is a peninsula.
Can you explain why you are suggesting to close off traffic in the kitchen?

We did consider a similar layout to that. A cooktop in an island or peninsula is something we both agreed that we did not want.
