Really like your ideas. I was just looking on Craigslist and found some black night stands. I do have a wrought iron head board that I was going to have my husband paint but don't know if it should be off white or grey. Trying to do it on a budget.

On a budget you can also get very creative in the quest for a headboard. Maybe hang up a great rod, take a drapery panel that hangs from tabs, wrap some foam and voila:

Love your paint color. Agree with previous poster about ideas for room. Do want to mention, if you have a Habitat Restore, check there frequently. You can sometimes find beautiful and unexpected items.

I once hung a rug up behind the bed as the headboard:

What color are your walls and bedding? It's hard to tell in the photo but the walls look greyish blue and the bedding brown and white.

Bedding is cream and greys. Wall color is a slate blue. Very different in all the lighting.

I like your different night stands. Perhaps this would be a good solution.

To answer your question about painting the wrought iron headboard. Off white and grey would both work beautifully. You just need to decided how much you want it to stand out against your wall. White create more contrast and therefore seek your attention, while grey will blend and create more of a peaceful and relaxing feel.
Before choosing the colour, decided how you want your bedroom to "feel".

Just got some decor pillows this weekend. Still looking for night stands. Looking for curtains next. Too cold here to paint headboard :)

Should I go with solid or a pattern for curtains? Not really sure what to do. I like the example of the solid but if someone could post some ideas of a curtain with a pattern this would be great.

I would take a sample of your paint color and a pillow case and find drapes that have the same colors. It will look great whether it is a print, stripe, or solid. See example below.

Odd numbers work when you are grouping. Three is always a good place to start; go up from there if you're feeling it.

Pattern 1: This is your strongest statement, so choose something you absolutely love and want to go off of for the rest of the room. It's best to start with a large scale pattern.
(I would think this would be your comforter or drapes)

Pattern 2: This piece should have a couple of the same colors as your first pattern, but be half the scale.
(drapes or comforter)

Pattern 3: Go for a complementary color or neutral textured piece in a smaller scale.
(Throw pillows)

Got some nightstands this weekend and pillows! Got a great deal on both items. Now need to work on curtains and decor for walls. Was going to frame some of my kids art work... Thoughts...

What a haven you are creating AND how sweet to think of using art made by your kids!!! Would be a great gallery wall, as I am guessing they are the small ones? Maybe not. You could even include their picture beside their pieces of art. They will be soooo proud and you can get frames with removable backs to keep updating the wall.

This is looking good. I think using your kids art work is a great idea. I think you really need a headboard to give the room a more complete look. One like this from Overstock.com would look great.
