Looking for suggestions on this counter/bar area

I have this counter area that I need help redesigning. Currently it's a slab of granite held up by a ledge that I created (block of wood attached to the wall then liquid nailed to the granite) on one side. The other side is two wood posts that are also held to the granite with liquid nails.

This setup is OK and has worked well for the last 8 years but that's also because I'm careful not too lean against it or put any heavy weight on an angle causing it to come crashing down. Now that I'm planning to rent out my condo in the near future, I'm securing anything that could cause problems.

My thought is a cabinet of some sort with the added benefit of extra storage. So I'd get rid of the posts and attach the cabinet to the wall and could I use liquid nails to hold the granite to the top of the cabinet? I doubt I'll find a cabinet to match mine so I'm also looking for recommendations for that. Would I pick a basic neutral tone? My cabinets are a light maple finish. Lastly, I currently keep my trash can there and will now lose that place to keep it. Anyone have some clever trash can ideas (something that holds a lot of trash too!).

Thanks for any help with this project!!
