Need pink wall color/decor for girls room that has very little light.

I'm switching this guest room to my daughters room and she wants to go with a light pink and white color scheme. The carpet is brown/tan and the floor boards, door, door trim, and shutters are all wood. I'm TERRIBLE at picking paint colors. I'll be buying new furniture, headboard, and bedding so any suggestions will be extremely helpful. She is turning 7 so I'd like this decor to last at least till high school before I would have to re-do any of it. Thank you!!

If you want it to last, maybe go with a white or very, very pale pink for the walls and bring in more of the color scheme with the accessories? Or pick a rug to go over the carpet and pick up any white or cream in it to match with the wall paint.

The pinks are subdued instead of bubblegum bright, making it a serene and calming space. Keep your whites more to the ivory side, add touches of chocolate for accent. And the current headboard looks like it would be perfect for a scheme like this.

IME, they change their room decor to "teen" around age 12. I second the suggestion to paint it white and use pink for bedding and other easily-replaced items.

I appreciate all the comments! Keeping the whites more ivory and using a super light pink. Also think adding the light rug on top of the brown carpet is a great idea I would not have thought of! Many thanks!!

lbarcik, I'm having a terrible time painting the room--lighting is odd--so I'm not even going to post it. However, take a look at the bedding from deny designs: http://www.denydesigns.com/collections/duvet-covers/pc-pink

The link above takes you to pink duvets, but you can filter by secondary color and by theme. Some cute and quirky stuff that would definitely not be what everyone else on the block has.

I went through the same "pink" phase with my daughter. We ended up choosing a soft clay pink, with a striped fabric in the same colour for bedding and curtains. Looked amazing and she kept it for 10 years, because it wasn't too "childish." Can't remember the exact colour now...(my daughter will be 33 next month ;) but it was a BM paint.

I found a perfect neutral, yet pink color when I was spending way too much time designing a room for my first child. I love it so much I had them use it in my second house (and will again when I move later this year). It is Valspar Pink Chocolate in Satin.
