Need help choosing wall paint colours for living room/kitchen please

I'd like to paint my living room but for the last 3 years I've been completely stumped since I bought this house. The paint wall samples have been there for a 3 years now!!! I don't mind the paint color on the wall right now but I don't know the exact color and besides the color makes the walls look dirty.

As I collect items I'm starting to learn the style I seem to like e.g. the curtains, candles and pictures. The words that come to me are glamour, romantic, cosy and modern. This living room faces south north and with the trees does not get much natural light.

Other than the beiges, reds and greens is there anything the houzz community can recommend, I'd really appreciate it. P.S. sorry about the mess.

Using your drapes as inspiration, How about something like this living room. A white plush rug and yellow slipper chairs would look nice with your couch and drapes. You're right, the wall colour isn't right. I would suggest a grey either lighter or darker than the grey in the drapes.

Also suggest changing at least one of the light fixture in kitchen-dining area.

Paint color should be chosen LAST. Make sure you already have the furniture, all fabrics, rugs, etc. for the room before you start looking at paint colors. Then when you choose some colors to sample..don't paint them on your walls..you can't really see the color. Paint your samples (2 coats) on large poster boards. Look at the colors during daylight & evening lamp light and move them from wall to wall bu taping hem up..they will all look different, because color is about how light hits it.

I like the sofa. I like the window panels, except they are not lined. You need to do that. The light comes through and distorts the color.

Picture # 4…I suggest painting the cabinets white and all the walls a lighter gray than the color of your sofa.

Any suggestions on the exact grey paint to use that has warmth to it also. How
about wallpaper on one of the walls?

You have a wonderful space. You might consider extending your curtain rods so that beautiful window is totally uncovered when the drapes are open. I agree on picking a light shade of gray for wall color while choosing yellow accessories to pick- up the yellow from the drapes. The yellow will brighten your room since it doesn't get much light.

Kaye1951 you're right, the curtain rods do need to be extended and the whole windows seen, especially since I get cabin fever bad, and a light grey with yellow highlights are a great idea. I finally hired an Interior Designer who actually understands me and she will be helping me pick out some colors.
