I think the problem is that your huge washing machine and dryer are overpowering your laundry room which has a completely different style. I would suggest painting your cabinets the same colour as your washer and dryer and ramp up stainless steel elements to make it a bit more modern? But not sure how this fits in with the rest of your home or your style. More info and photos would help.

Thanks, it's pretty much a cookie cutter new build for America. Almost everything is generic looking. I'm trying to put my own touch on it but it's overwhelming to try to do it all at once. Starting with laundry seems smart... Thanks for your feedback.

Laundry rooms can have art work on the walls, also some clean linens.

I would take risers out from bottom of machines add a counter and throw some art in there ,,backsplash is fine ,wouldn't change it ,

Think function first... do you want more counter space for folding etc? If so, agree/ consider removing the washer and dryer pedestals... con to this, you will need to bend more for changing loads. I would leave backsplash, add a simple flat roman valence in black or gray and white scrip fabric with bold color piping. Black and white fun family photos and children's art (if you have kids) framed in white on your open wall. I personally avoid a rug, due to lint collections

I actually have lots of counter space to fold and like the washer and dryer up higher. Guess I'll just throw in a rug and some art. Not too hard. Think I'm making it harder than it is. Just don't want to waste money. Thank you all for the feedback. :)

Do you feel comfortable with a hammer and chisel? The back splash can be removed fairly quickly and sand out the residual grout. I think with the counters, machines, and cabinets a deep Grey grass cloth wallpaper could look elegant ( and it would mask any imperfections in wall after tile removal!) A patterned roman shade, a mini chandelier, change the hardware for something more "you" (lucite, chrome, more detailed, etc.) And keep those machines on pedestals! Anyone who suggests form over function in the laundry room may not have to do their own laundry! Your home is beautiful - good luck!

Or to keep costs down change hardware and add some canisters to the counter to mask the back splash :)

sorry late to the party on this discussion - if the budget allows, how about changing out the countertop for something lighter and brighter (which will necessitate removing the one row of tumbled marbles above the counter) and then using subway tiles above the sink?

Actually I should have said this looks very much like my new home laundry room, right down to the machine colours, but ours are stacked units. We will use white cabinetry and a white patterned Formica countertop then 4 X 12 subway tiles between the counter and upper cabinets.

I love the tile back splash! Love the room in general. I'm about re-do mine with a bright color behind my machines ( which are conventional ) and a pretty rug in front of them. I like a rug and don't find lint to be an issue.

I think a colorful, fun roman shade would look great & add a bit of style to the room.

Pull a color from the shade and add glass jars with lids or thread spools, etc.in that color.

Look into using a black and white damask print. Stylish and elegant. A very classic look. York Inspired by Color Black and White is a great book to start with.
