HELP!! With Dining Room, New Home.

New Home Just moved in-Ordered this beautiful dining set but our room is an odd shape. Wanted to do a cream oatmeal rug from west elm http://www.westelm.com/products/sweater-rug-r717/?cm_src=AutoRel however they only have a 5X8 size or 8X10 size. The larger will not fit. Should I choose the lower size even if the chair legs come off the edges? Chairs are a Beige Chenille linen fabric and table is dark dark espresso. Also need decor ideas some color to pop, curtains, etc. Currently have light blinds already, CANNOT PAINT-walls are bone white and gloss white trim. Going with a contemporary theme but casual (trying for neutral with accent color). Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Nice furniture! is it possible to get a photo of room from other angles?
from what I can see from the photos, the table is now on an angle to make it fit in the room? This looks a bit awkward. I would remove the table leaf, use just 4 chairs around the table, push the table closer to the back wall...center it up. Do you have a server/buffet/hutch/console that could go on the opposite wall? if so, see of the remaining 2 chairs could be placed on either side. that would balance the room and improve traffic flow.
Now, speaking of traffic....I SO understand your love of that a West Elm rug....BUT....(a) a too small rug will look awful and look like it was a desperate attempt to make it "fit", and (b) a solid looking rug is NOT what you want under your dining room table....unless you want to be vacuuming under it every day for the rest of your life! trust me on this....I'm 65 years old, and I've done it all...plain rug, no rug, patterned rug, rug tiles.....seriously, I've done it all. really! My recommendation if you want to warm up the space, give it a BaZINGA ! of color and make it awesome....get an oriental rug -in the proper size. The chairs should have all 4 legs on the rug, and even when the chairs are pulled back. This does not have to cost you your retirement fund....there are lots and lots of perfectly lovely rugs that will serve you faithfully and well for years and years, and will bring you pleasure. just find one in the colors you love....and the patterns will hide a multitude of flaws, dropped crumbs, and even spills. And that rug will have all the colors you can use as accents on your walls and table.

Go to a real oriental rug store as your first stop....look at the rugs and ask advice for the pros there about the correct size. Find a pattern or two types that you like...then, go online and see if you can find a man-made rug that is similar. I've had wonderful experiences with Pottery barn on this regard. I have a mix of the real-real kind and the PB kind, and both are well used and loved and work well.

Good luck....you've got a great start with that solid, "go with any style" table and chairs. :-)

Beautiful furniture. You can get a rug sized using wool carpet. Is there a chandelier?

I agree with removing the leaf in order to make the table fit the room. I would find an area rug that fits properly and has color. There are many affordable rugs on-line or at Home Good stores. Pull a couple of colors out of the rug and use them in the room. Add a runner down the center of the table and place three white pottery pieces down the center. A mirror on one wall would help reflect some light. See if you can't find some architectural detail to add to the wall. If you don't have a server or buffet, you can accomplish a similar look by adding a chunky shelf (Home Goods) slightly higher than waist high and add some serving pieces. It looks like the room has available corners. You could put the extra table chairs in two if the corners and add small lumbar pillows or a throw in a coordinating color. Sorry if I got a bit carried away but you offered up a blank canvas.

Thank you all for the comments I really appreciate you taking the time :) I agree with a lot of your ideas for sure! I am going to take two of the chairs and put them in the corner of the rooms. On the outside of a Sofa table (but one chair in each corner) so there will be space between the table and chairs, the sofa table I am currently not using in the living room so we could use that. I could add some decor on top to make look nice. The chairs of the set were not as light as I thought they were going to be I am attaching some images to show also more views of the room for those who asked. I was thinking a neutral rug to contrast to the dark wood but lighter than the chairs too and of a natural fiber material I can add the color with decor pieces and curtains. Just not sure what colors to use. I can also repaint the sofa table if needed to offset all the espresso furniture (which the sofa table is waist height and espresso just like the dining table). I really like the idea of the throw pillows on the chairs on each side of the sofa table just still not sure on color. Any ideas would help for that and for the rest of the room. Im not looking to upgrade the chandelier, maybe down the road. We just built this house so we have already spent a ton of money on it, so any suggestions to go with wall paint color-bone white and trim is gloss white would be helpful too, Im not wanting to paint just yet as well. Floor is Dark Oak Bridle which is like an espresso cherry look. Its hard to describe. So Im also looking for curtains too any pics of any things I can add is also helpful and to choose color. Sorry Im jumping all over the road here so any other advice is GREATLY appreciated!! Sorry these aren't the greatest photos guys and girls but the light stunk today when taking them and also as you can see the room is very odd shaped because our walk in pantry is behind the slanted wall.

Sorry forgot to write description for where these photos are viewed from when you walk in our door into the foyer the dining room is to the right. first pic from clockwise is a view from the kitchen, second is from the room showing the slant wall, third is the view from the foyer as well as the fourth to show all angles for you guys :) Hope this helps again this is just starting out so we are open for suggestions. I do want to add that we also would like to use these possibly for the walls let me know what you think?? Can it be worked into the room? Im a wine fanatic but it is rustic so not sure how to tie that in :)

Of course you can. You can hang it on that little wall in the second picture. Maybe get a nice rustic looking light to tie the modern/rustic together

Since a rug needs to be 4' wider and longer than the table, I'd forget about that and focus my attention on the window treatments and perhaps painting below the chair rail with a richer color. When budget allows, upgrade the chandy and lower it to less than 36" above the table top. Color can be added with art.

I like the wine decoration and think it would go nicely in the room. I am attaching an item that may compliment it. I would hang cream or gray drapes with moss green tie backs. The green is the color I would pull in for the pillows and table linens.

So Ive moved around the furniture as suggested. But not sure if it looks cramped? I haven't done anything but move the furniture. I did purchase a rug and am waiting on it to be delivered but I have added the pic for reference. I like the idea of gray drapes. I am currently using a clay rust color in the living room and am thinking of adding some gray throw pillows to blend the two rooms together. what do you all think? Rug is the ivory color. And I did decide on a neutral color in case I ever want to change the color of decor accents down the road :) Thanks for everyones advice too!!

I might locate an area carpet that suits adequately and it has shade. There are numerous affordable carpets on-line as well as at home Very good outlets.

The only size that can fit in the room is 6X9 an 8X10 is too large and will go up the wall. So we got this rug in a 6X9 size it will comfortably fit in the room with all chairs on the rug.

I was wondering how it would look squared up to the window , it's hard to see from pic , some times angled may take more room , if room basically is rectangle I would just try to straighten out . Good luck beautiful furniture and room

Room looks a little tight they way it is set up right now. But your rooms is starting off with good bones.
