Need help with center island granite choice

Dilemma is simple. Main counter tops are Santa Cecilia and we installing a new cook-top in the island. New cook-top is 36" vs the old 47" JennAir. Hence we need to choose another type of granite for the island since we cannot match the Santa Cecilia currently installed. We are thinking a black based granite with movement or other secondary colors which complement the Santa Cecilia. Open to all ideas. Thanks.

If you pick a color that has movement it will fight with the pattern of the St. Cecilia, I will suggest going with either Black Absolute or trying to find a solid colors quartz with the same tone as the St. Cecilia.

How about a cutting board or place to put hot pots and pans instead of getting a whole new counter? You should be able to brace underneath and maybe get a 12" butcher block cutting board to drop in. Seems like such a waste and a big expense to replace the whole counter.

I would also suggest a more solid colored quartz. Pick something that matches one of the colours in the current granite. That way there's no pattern to clash with the existing granite.

santoslhauper, not so sure wood next to fire is a good idea. I had my wood cutting board near the gas burners and caught the edge on fire. Just saying.....

agree with getting a solid stone .. another busy stone will not look good.

good point, vjs12. I assumed the cooktop would be electric and burners wouldn't be near the edge. I didn't consider a gas burner
