Hi. I need to know the purpose of your window treatments

-just decorative/light/privacy?

Also, that is such a great spot for a window seat. Would you consider that?

Just my opinion - leave as is - no need to accent the windows with anything - the windows show themselves. Although I would probably take away some of the plants - it looks overcrowded.

I think side panels would frame the window very nicely.

If you need privacy at night then add a long rod as high as possible and extend it 12 to 18" past the windows on each end. When the drapes are open they should stack on the sides without obstructing the windows. Curtains should reach the floor and be simple in color and design.

You're right--the windows are really special.

The main purpose would be decoration and privacy. Light is not an issue. A window seat is a great idea, but the depth of the box is only 11 inches. Also - note that the couch is hiding a radiator (see picture).

Is that a working radiator?

@leelee - Thank you for the suggestion. We cannot have curtains that reach the floor because of the radiator there (see above comment/picture). Also - this is a very narrow room, and I'm afraid that anything outside the box-frame would make the room look smaller.
@stonedog123 - yes, it's a working radiator.

Fabric flat roman shades-- or leave as is-- but plain flat roman shades in a nice linen would look good, I think. Also, custom shutters, though you may not be able to match the existing wood of windows.

I would recommend that you move the sofa away from the radiator - it looks way to close in this picture - for air flow purposes.

If need be get two blocks of wood that just exceed the width of the radiator. Place them on the floor beneath the wall and the back legs of the sofa. This is a great way to deal with the problem stonedog mentioned (I rented a number of places and this was a go-to workable solution)

Also, if you show us the rest of the room, I'll bet there is a better way to arrange the furniture to get the couch off the radiator and so the window isn't blocked.

How can you have the sofa pushed against the radiator? Dark wood or bamboo blinds mounted inside the window box would be another option. I'd hate to see much of those windows obscured.

CDR Design: The windows certainly look deep enough for an inside mount, for roman shades or custom shutters. I'm curious as to why you would recommend an outside mount on windows like these. To keep as much of the surround showing as possible would be a preferable goal, I think?

Love your windows. I don't think you need anything for decorations sake. However ... I would invest in a few much larger plants with beautiful coordinating pots. A tub of Sanseveria would be so happy there and larger plants would also make for some more privacy as well as be striking decor :-) At least one Cymbidium too. The price of orchids these days is so affordable.

Adding on to other comments....I use woodblocks to keep sofa off my wall for looks and keep paint clean...this idea is excellent for your room. My idea....inside mount linen roman shades style called bottom up/top down. This means you have the windows covered at bottom half and top half open. And can have full coverage when need.

These are beautiful windows and I would not want to cover them either. Roman shades in a light woven fabric that still let light in, or bamboo roman shades

Shutters in custom stain to match your wood work or some fabric valances.

Thank you everyone for the great comments! I'll take more pictures of the room later today, in case anyone has advice about furniture arrangement, etc. As for windows - I'm leaning towards roman or bubble shades, white (or off-white) hue, lightweight fabric.

hadari: I think those are the wisest choices, given the beautiful window and the radiator. I will be happy to give suggestions on your furniture arrangement.

Plants: it seems you love plants, but some of them seem to be in "winter" mode and are not looking their best right now. Also, they are visually competing with the outdoor greenery. I would consider locating them to a different room. Perhaps you could keep a couple of the ones that are in better shape.

Have a custom rad cover made to match your window trim. Fiber roman shades at each window and stationary panels mounted outside the bay, as Mark illustrated, but perhaps on a full length rod.

@decoenthusiast - I considered radiator covers; the problem is that the room is long and narrow, and I didn't want to further narrow it.
@CDR - the plants are not meant to stay - they are in for a quick rehab, and most of them are moving outside in the spring.
As for furniture arrangement - see pictures of room. The coffee table and ikea chairs are temporary. Some constraints are: the door to the den (right of fireplace) should not be blocked; also the door to the dining room. Advice welcome - thanks!

We are also seeking a media cabinet for the room, not sure where to place it...

So, the media cabinet would be for the purpose of watching tv?

Watching tv and listening to music, yes (though I don't want TV to be the main function of the room, we just don't have a better place for it).

Okay....here is what I would do. I would divide the room into 2 spaces.

Space one-media:

-float couch in center of room, facing hall, couch moved all the way toward the dining room wall

-media cabinet on wall

-2 chairs floated to face media center

-traffic to the right along the window wall.

coffee table in center

Space two: fireplace

I don't have a real feel for how much space is there, but perhaps one chair off to the left of the fireplace.
