I'd like some ideas on decorating around a fireplace

We have a different looking fireplace and would like ideas on decorating around it or what could we possibly do to make it look better.

What a neat focal point. I like the photos however they are all the same height. I would place a few pictures on the left side that are taller but not all the same height. I would then a space with a few more in the front and off to the side. I think maybe some neat candle features in between and with the photo mixes would be a nice touch. If possible I would put a nice feature chair on the right side. You have lots of little things on the bottom but if you brought some of the candle details to the mantle and maybe place a substantial lamp on the right side on the hearth. Sometimes one large substantial accent piece is better than many little ones. Good luck.

Fun fireplace. I would remove everything that is currently on the fireplace. All the items are small so it just looks like clutter. I would get very nice fireplace tools and probably leave it at that.

I whitewashed my brick fireplace in the basement with stain - made it fade into the background- maybe that is what you want if you don't like it. Maybe it is to expensive Reba120 - sometimes we must work with things. :)

The pictures are too small. Maybe 2 larger pictures on one side and one even larger picture on the other side would work better. Either in addition to or instead of the pictures, I'd add one to three round vases. I've seen some that are sort of flatttened that would be perfect for this space (in stores, not online, so not sure how to find them). Just make sure whatever you use, it's big enough for the scale of this fireplace. It's really neat, by the way--you're lucky to have this unique focal point and you'll love it when you get it decorated the way you like it.

I would straight up the all corner. This way it will be more easy to decor.

Yes the brick is too busy and tooooo many items surrounding it. I painted my lava rock fireplace and love it now. I would recommend the same, then add ONE dramatic picture on the mantle. Love the design, just not the color, it looks aged in a bad way.

The big question is what does the rest of the room looks like and what effect are you trying to create. Is this going to be the focal point? Do you have a style on your home? What area of the country do you live on and how often do you use it. Start by answering all this questions to find what direction you need to take this project. I think your floor is wood and you have those beautiful wood pop-outs on the ceiling based solely on those two assumptions I think you need to incorporate wood into the mix. But again it would be better to see the whole room.

I would try white wash versus painting or stucco, that way you keep some of the brick peeking through, but freshens it up. If that doesn't work you can grow more drastic, paint stucco. There are a lot of little things that add clutter, plus the color of them are similar to the brick so nothing stands out or has impact.
