As for other ideas for your entryway, it could use a little more lighting. I do like the arrow on the wall and there is an overhead fixture, but perhaps a nice table or floor lamp could help brighten up this space even more.

I agree with Margo. A bench would work better both visually and functionally, and will not interfere with the opening of the door.

I agree a bench would look much nicer and add better function. I can't tell your style from the photo but here are some choices from Pottery Barn that I really like. And the good news, both are on sale.

I love your zebra rug. Agree with the bench idea and the photo that was shared is a great one!! No, your rocking chair is not "dumb!" I think a house should be a home, and nothing is more homey than a good old rocking chair! I just do not think the foyer is the best place for it at all. Do you have a fireplace? Or a cozy corner in a den or bedroom? Place the rocking chair there, and pull out all the stops in your foyer/entryway. This is the first thing people see, and you will want to welcome them in a big way!

There is a socket on the wall underneath the arrow. Another idea would be a hall table with a lamp or buffet lamps.

my rule of them is functioning form, if someone sat there the back would mark up the wall and they would feel bad. By having it there it is an invitation to sit. If it was a child's size then it would function as art, but not as it is now.

I see a bench on the other side so i would go for a vintage sofa table with a rugged wood bowl etc...some kind of vase....

A table with a lamp under the arrow would be perfect for that space. Love the rocking chair, but it would be better placed in a cozy spot in a room. A rustic, earthy hall table in mission style, shaker or unique handcrafted wood with a lamp in the same theme would compliment the rug and create a warm and welcoming entryway.

Oh wow. That changes things a bit. I did not realize there was a wall opposite the front door. You need that focal point when you come in the house. Cute table, etc!!
Why don't you try a really great umbrella stand and some antique (as well as some good looking but usable) umbrellas? It would fill that corner and really be cute!

I think you have a great entry & a really good start. Love the rug & arrow, and think a bench or table would be a wonderful addition - bench if you need somewhere to sit to put on shoes or table if you think space for keys, lamp and some display is more what you are after. Rustic modern style would be in keeping with the rug & arrow. Rocking chair would work better for a reading nook in bedroom or family room

yes for the bench idea, this one is not Rustic though, but the idea is the same . Find another location for the rocking chair it doesn't belong in an entrance ,no one will sit there to remove their footwear if they will rock themselves:in the process and hit the wall too..

The photo you've added really gives a new perspective on your entryway and takes things in a new direction! Most of the designers agree that a hall table or bench would be attractive, as well as functional in that space. How about a distressed cottage storage bench? That would compliment the little green table, as well as the rug and give you a place to keep shoes or slippers when you enter. The throw pillows in Genevieve's post is also a charming and homey idea. And on top of all that....you can sit on it too!
