I had the same cabinets for 15 years. Just replaced them this November. So, I understand trying to town down the yellow orange hues.

Personally, I would not use burnt orange paint if you are trying to tone down that color in your cabinets. A soft sage green might help. It helped my kitchen. There are a few rub on stains you can use on varnished cabinets made by Howard's. It helped tone down the yellow and add some cinnamon tones to our cabinets.

If you are going to replace your counters pick a fairly light neutral tone for your granite or silstone and then add a backsplash with some color to draw your eye to the backsplash.

this paint is the original with the cabinets ...they did orange more over the years...I am thinking a shade of taupe or grey so it will blend with the rest of the house

I think a slate gray would look nice
