This Q. is similar to another persons, but our arrangement is a bit different.

I am referring to the inset area to the left of the stairs where the green tree is shown. The front door is to the left of that area a short ways away.

Our front door opens right into our living room. I am wondering if it would be wise to build in some cabinets in that niche/foyer area/far wall. The people who owned the house before us had a TV/media center there. We don't use a TV in that room at all (it's in the family room).

If we sell in 10 yrs and move, then the new owners might not like that closet there if they want a media center there instead ... on the other hand maybe they would think it's useful for coats, storage, etc.

We could use the closet space for coats and vacuum, etc. For now we just put the vacuum in a spare bedroom or down in the finished basement (there are no built-ins down there either). We could do some built-ins in the basement for vacuum etc,, but it would shorten the room. We don't want to stick a lot of money in this house, as it's a modest neighborhood and we want to get a window put into the family room and do some yard work/trees, etc.

Just not sure if that would look out of place in that area. It could take away from the spaciousness of the LR.

There is a small coat closet in the family room, but that's the only one.
The house is about 1600 sq. ft. in total.
