Could you just keep the antlers and lose the skull? This is the reason the "man cave' was invented!

How about spray painting and hanging in a hallway. A hallway is a pass thru area, so it wouldn't be staring at you while you relax.

In the corner like that it looks like a ghost of deer's past coming to get you. Scary! Lol

I agree with pcmom1. A more private space might be considered to display these types of trophies particularly if children or vegans will be exposed to them. They can be creepy to children and offensive to vegans. If there are multiple antlers, how about having them made into a hanging light fixture?

I so wish we had a man cave... have a 1919 house and the basement is dark and in order to have a finished basement up to code we would have to raise the house. ($$$)

I have an appreciation for a fine skull as much as anyone but the placement over the chair creeps me out and I eat meat. Most people, especially hunters don't want someone (Dolly the deer) behind them when they sit. Do you have more than one you wish to display? I don't feel you need to hide it away but this is not the spot where it shows off to best advantage.

yes, saratogaswizzlestick, this is the 4th set of antlers I have to have on display, problem is they are all different (my house is being taken over!) ill take pics so you can see what I have so far: in the hall, and over the changing table (?).

The large deer head was actually our first ever marital argument lol...im learning to make compromises now, its my husbands house too so I don't want him to feel uncomfortable and not love the space as well. I did schooling for decorating but I feel like you should go though a course of marital counseling as well, because making it work for one person is easy.... combining 2 very different ideas and making it work takes a miracle worker! lol

That is a problem. You need to set a limit on the number of antlers on display. Make one cool collection of perhaps three. He can pick his three favorite and if a new favorite comes along another head need to be booted out.

My brother-in-law brought home a cow skull. My SIL couldn't stand it so one day she painted it with a variety of bright colors to make it more tolerable.

why don't you make one of those antler chandeliers out of some of the antlers and get some of them off the walls? Maybe he would compromise with something along those lines.

Oh, the deer trophy over the changing table is...I don't know whether to laugh or cry -- and I am born and raised in Wisconsin. But back to decorating: If you have a high wall, as in an entry way or great room, not looking right in the deer's eyes would help. I also noticed with the charcoal room you posted, the lack of contrast with a dark wall helps the thing to recede.

Why don't you sneak the ones he is not so fond of into the garage and eventually into the trash. That's how I handle most of the hubster's almost forgotten trophies. I have allowed one skull mount in our den. I'm afraid I've opened the flood gates........

No heads in corners, that is just weird and creepy.

Find a good chunk of wall somewhere, and I would actually run moulding floor to ceiling, to define a swipe at least 4' wide, put it in some sort of dark classic contrast color (dark green, burgundy, etc) and mount all the antlers there. Put some sort of couch table against wall underneath and do some sort of tasteful sports/hunting/outdoor arrangement on it and leave that as the 'gallery'. You could even do this in a hallway.

I'm guessing your husband does't want you altering the look of his trophy, but I find the skull really unappealing. I would agree that the antlers only could be intertwined to make a cool chandelier or something. I think the best way to display the skull is to rest it on it's side in a grouping with other natural items like a collection of large pine cones, or moss covered balls maybe a house plant or terrarium. And I recommend making this collection on a higher shelf so it can be seen as part of a grouping but can also fade into the woodwork over time. And the largest dear head should probably be mounted nearby like Mark suggested so that they aren't all spread out.

mcbartz- re the painted cow skull-- Sorry I don't have pics. My brother in law liked the skull better unpainted, but he knew his wife hated it so he accepted the compromise. It looks less creepy painted.

Trophy skull mounts are expensive. Honestly, I wouldn't touch one with a paint brush.........

I would save the skull to hang on the front door for Halloween....

Those two mounted antlers only, might look better over the tv. Especially if that wall was painted that deep charcoal shown in the "exotic" picture you posted. Think the color would contrast nicely.

Papa deer.... seems like half his body was mounted...could he be moved into your bedroom? There is a cool woodland wallpaper that might look good as a back drop. Or just go very rustic in decor:

The skull isn't bad at all. The corner location is not good. I hate the oak slabs many are on. The one you show is quite nice. It need to have color around it. So make it part of an art grouping. Skulls are in style! Go with it.
