Love decoenthusiaste's idea! You could even paint the bottom of the buffet a color .. red, green. Pick up this color in the bench cushions and art.

I like the idea about taking the top off and painting the bottom a different color but then I have no place to display the dishes I have in there. Have to think about that. It would probably really open up the area. Also like the idea of the pedestal table.

Paint the hutch. A really good look is to paint the inside a different color.

With your savings, invest in a rug & new table & chairs with more comfortable & colorful cushions.

You could hang a picture above your hutch or put some large baskets up there to visually raise it's height.

If you want to display your items, ditch both the large cabinet and the small one under your TV. Replace both with matching glass front credenzas. Put TV on one, and artwork above the other.

I'm sure you will be able to pull it together, if you take what you like best in your inspiration photos and try and 'copy' it. If you like watching TV there, might as well make more cozy/plush seating and add some layers. Have fun! :)

You mention purchasing a new hutch, so with the assumption you have a budget, my suggestion is this: frame out the window with cabinets or shelves to the ceiling and across the top of the window. Connect it all with a window seat..... With a hinged lid for even more storage. For cost, use paintable grade lumber and simply paint to match your white kitchen cabinets. You will get an abundance of storage, and cozy seating, which you can soften with cushions and pillows, allowing you to inexpensively and easily freshen your decor when the mood strikes. Any shape table would work lovely with a window seat.
