-- Would love a little more info . . . Beautiful floor, by the way!

What room is this - Family room? Living room? TV? Are the walls paneling or wallpaper?
What is on the wall opposite the door? What other rooms are connected to this one?

Where? I am in Orleans. As an experienced CCder, I suggest getting a new storm door. Anderson/MidCape.

Floors are good. I would paint all the trim white and the paneling something like BM Collingwood. And I would do the entire house in this color. When you decide to decorate a bit more, Collingwood will work for you.

Paint the paneling, throw up some crown molding, and head to Ikea or Pottery Barn for a slipcovered couch such as the Ikea Ektorp or the PB Basic.

Paint it a nice light color, but do not put up crown moulding. Believe me, it would look funky. :)

I like Britt's idea of a seaside cottage look. That will give it a light, fresh look. :)

HI -- If it were me , I would re-move the wall paneling . It's very busy and not very attractive . It would also be a good idea to check out any electrical if the paneling has been up for a long time . If you dry walled instead then the floors will be the feature .

We just removed paneling and it was a nightmare as their was no real drywall behind it. I love the painted look with white or benjamin more Plymoth Rock is a beautiful neutral color. you could do a chair rail and paint the paneling below it white...then drywall over it. Whatever you do...do not wallpaper over it!

HI -- In all my years I have never had anybody have a bad time removing old paneling , it usually comes right off . Paneling like that is such a fire hazard .so best to be gone .

I would move everything out and paint the paneling a nice white - shade would depend on direction the room faces, if north, go with warmer shades, south and west, cooler shades.
Painted paneling can be beautiful. Would get rid of rocker and try slipcovers for sofa and other chair. Keep the coffee table. I believe that is a slate top with etching of a schooner.
Please let me know as I have two that look identical that my hubby's company made years ago.

Whitewashing would bring it right into a cottage vibe and allow you go beachy with soft colors in furnishings.

We had a cottage with paneling on the South Shore in MA and although I was skeptical at first, the paneling looked great once it was painted. It adds to the beachy vibe and painting saved a lot of time and money.

    Hi Lisa,

Paint for sure. Are the furnishings inside yours? If not, what is your style of furniture? This room is going to look great. Please share after photos. Hope you paint.

I would like to see new storm door as well. Full glass to invite the outside in.

    Good luck.

I just painted panelling like this in my basement. Even though it had already been painted by the previous owners it still was a nightmare to paint. There are seams and they cause trouble not to mention the lines. Rip it down, drywall, paint and head to the beach! Beautiful Floors!
