Granny apple green and teal and a very few shots of yellow with the already tan walls and carpet, tile (condo...moved in three years ago). Colorful and so different from other homes we've had.

If it works with the paisley, it works with everything else.

Barnhart again, laughing at myself. I was thinking that although it's not often the dominant element of a design or even among the fabrics, I still probably incorporate a complex paisley into most of my spaces, which almost as often rules the color palette. Then I looked down at what I'm wearing right now, and LOL, it's a perfect example of how I build a room.

I started with my new paisley shirt from Coldwater Creek, grabbed a fringed sweater in the burgundy background color, reached for the faded jeans that echo the blue/grey, went for greys and pinks (instead of the usual browns and terracottas) on the eyes and lips, and added jewelry and an overcoat much like these and -- out the door.

Tan, cream, camel, brown, and many different wood tones are the neutrals of all my rooms, it seems. Then, each room has some sort of deep reds or teals, or greens depending on the room. Finally, I like the accessories/art in brighter, jewel colors... ruby, turquoise, cobalt, emerald, gold, etc. And every room has some black in it too, for example, the appliances, a rug pattern, picture frames, the guest room quilt, or otherhalf's speakers.

I have added pops of jewel toned purple as a winter accent in my home. It is rich in color, vibrant but not flashy. Thinking ahead to spring...not sure what will be accent color!

The downstairs area (most of it) has yellows and orange (some of the wood furniture is walnut and some is black). I have other combinations throughout the house such as green and silver, blue and gray and of course, the kids room, which is dark pink with apple green and orange

white or mis-tint light colors for paint, and early construction zone, moving into finished picking up the big chunks. I like dark in the bedroom (I want to sleep), white ceilings, medium wood tones... blues or bluegreens and teals for the bathrooms. Living room I'll settle for finding THE COMFY BIG COUCH and work around whatever color that is.

My living room is my main living space it has:
Blue/gray (bluestone tables, linen accent chairs, toss pillows)
Orange (1920s terra cotta art tiles on the fireplace and the floor of the vestibule, plus some accent pieces and toss pillows)
Brown (1920s honey oak bookcase and trim, brown leather sectional, oak floors, wood church pew, great grandmother's antique hope chest, antique mirror)
Greige (paint on heavily textured 1920s plaster walls)
Black (iron accents - lights, railings, door hardware, window muntins)

Good idea Barhnart about designing a room based on our clothes, except that my room would probably be boring. I have a tendency to wear a lot of plain colors. I don't know why maybe it is easier to shop. But I know I get tired of my clothes easily.

My main colors are a brown-gray and a blue-gray. Accents of deep sapphire, navy, semi gloss white and chocolate brown. My color inspiration was winter morning fog on a lake. Writing it out sounds like a depressing palette but it's very calming and easy to add color into.

I am moving in a couple of months & all of the above colors is what I am using. I am happy to see them. I have a beige couch & chair. I am looking for end tables, coffee table & a consol. All accent colors in orange & teal.

I inherited a lot of my furniture and made it work in spite of it not being what I would have chosen. I have paneled walls and against all that mid-toned oak, I have mahogany furniture and cherry wood furniture with a sofa in ivory/dusty rose/dark fern green print and a wing chair in dusty rose. I use the green and the dusty rose throughout the house to make some unity. The curtains are ivory semi-sheers to offset all the dark woods and the muted colors of the sofa and chair.

What a fun conversation! I love seeing all the color combos. And Barnhart, that is an awesome challenge, I think your design looks great.

Right now? Sparkling white drywall dust, grey wallboard, sturdy blue painter's tape and whatever raspberry-ish color you call that heavy paper you tape to the floor to protect the floor - accented with light tan 2x4's and grey, paint-spattered sawhorses.

We're in the middle of a seemingly never-ending renovation/remodel, upgrading the house to make it accessible since we have decided to "age in place" here.

I have found that quiet palettes that invite color introduction in accessories suites me best, so my base colors are a soft tan. The carpet was here and in good shape when we moved in less than three years ago, but at least it is a neutral that I can live with. Paint colors are Manchester tan in living and dining area (the brown was too dark, so it has been changed to Manchester), a custom mix that is a little lighter than Lennox tan in master, baths, kitchen, and laundry, and OC-29 in guest bedroom.

We had expenses of new appliances (old looked like they would blow up if used), new roof (it rains a lot here), and new light fixtures. My first priority for updating was the kitchen with a cabinet over the island that was removed, painting the bright blue cabinets white, and replacing the beat up white laminate counter tops with oak back splash and trim. Master bath had carpet (yuck), so flooring was replaced, cabinets painted white (they were the same color as the dining hutch), new tile, and frameless shower door.

Long story short, the house is always a work in progress.
