Great cleaning and tidying job. I can see you want a really fresh start.
Could you look through the Houzz bedrooms and share with us some pictures of the rooms you like, and tell us a bit more about the colours you want or definitely don't want.
Do you have a budget to buy new things or will you be looking to reuse and repaint some furniture you have?
Do you have enough storage now?
What do you need to do there- study, entertain friends, watch TV ..?

A desk would be nice ... more pics need though.

I have enough storage as ibe got a built in cupboard and a large set of drawers, probably mainly white with splashes of colours everywhere, i wouldn't be able to spend too much, i have nothing i particularly need to do in my room, i have a spare tv but not necessarily wanting it in there, possibly some art to brighten the room, thanks for all the help so far!!

Hi Meghan. Your room looks nice and clear to start. Good job! Here is what I would recommend:

1) Move your dresser to the wall to the left of the door when you enter (So to the right of where that green thing is hanging on the wall
2) Move your bed to the wall where the dresser is in your photo above. Center the bed on the wall
3) Do you have something you can use for side stands? If so, place them beside the bed.
4) 2 lamps on either side of the bed will be great.
5) Place art above your bed.
6) Window panels to dress your windows.
7) Consider hanging your mirror sideways over your dresser

yes I like animal in paintings and maps and abstract type paintings, I would like to some how incorporate white fairy lights or prayers flags I'm just not sure how, I was wondering whether to change or keep my quilt cover aswell

First, please move your furniture. We cannot add any art until that is done.

quilt: It is hard to see. It seems like a comforter, right? It seems okay. Let's move your bed and then make the bed so that we can see it well.

The bedskirt seems to need straightening.

I applaud your cleaning efforts! That must have been a big job. Now, straighten your bed and make the coverlet, pillows and throw look nice. Center the head of the bed on the wall where the dresser is now. Move the dresser to the wall that's directly to the right of the entry door. Be sure to center it there if possible.

Can we see a picture of that arrangement, please?

Thanks for posting the pictures.
Here are a few suggestions. You could add wallpaper on just one wall behind your bed and adorn it with some nice artwork or mirrors. You could buy some beautiful tiles and get them framed on the wall behind the bed. A small bookshelf would look good and be useful at the same time. Updating your linen and upholstery is going to make a huge difference too. As CDR Design mentioned, you should move that mirror to the area above the credenza with drawers. Refer to the pictures below for some illustrations.

Then add a large picture over the dresser. Things look best hung lower over furniture. Maybe add a grouping of pics over your bed. Again, don't hang them too high.

A few points I missed. You should shift your bed to the centre of the wall and try moving your credenza and mirror to the wall just opposite your entrance door. If budget permits add side tables with nice accent lighting.

Are those real or fake plants on the window? They are crowded by the shade.

If fake, they would look great on the dresser.

Don't worry, once you get your furniture set, we can decorate the room with almost no $.

Ok there is an ideabook i have found on here which I am in love with! Great use of color, space and the design is great.

They have made good use of wallpaper in the bedroom and the bed they have used is industrial chic!

I'm sure things have changed since I was a teenager but I'm not sure about industrial chic for a 16 year old girl.

Even though the mirror would look nice over your dresser, I am thinking you want that mirror on the wall where it is. Every girls needs a full-length mirror, right? Plus, it looks good there and I don't think you want to look at yourself in the mirror when you are in bed.

The bedspread looks good. You will get all kinds of ideas of how to decorate and that will come, but you need to get the basics set first. Sort of when you write a paper: you have to do the outline first.

I would do this next:

1) Prop your pillows up against the wall for a sort of headboard look.
2) If the plants are fake, move them to your dresser
3) Do you have somewhere in the house a table or 2 small tables you can use as side stands? Or is there any $ in the budget to buy?
4) Then, ideally, you would put a lamp on each side stand.
5) Finally, a chair would be nice that you could put in one of the corners or by the window.
6) The afghan doesn't show well on the bed. Maybe we will put that on a chair.

Saying you are not a JB fan says a lot about you. I'll bet you have a good future ahead of you. Sounds like you have your head on straight!!

Wow! I love all the art you chose! Your bedspread is white and gray? I think the rooftops one and the one with all the animals (both WM) would go best in your room to pull in the gray from your spread.

Then, you could add a couple of pillows to go with the art.

You should consider painting your room, also. That will come last.

Megan, do you have $ to spend on a new bedding or any other item? I noticed you posted some bedding in your idea book.

Or, are there items around the house you can use?

That would help us to know if you can add new items to the room?

thankyou for all of these ideas i may get two new beside tables and put small lamps on either side of the bed
if i were to get a headboard would you suggest any in particular?
what type of pillows were you thinking?
although the painting would definitely come last, should i think of a feature wall, or possibly wallpaper as my dad wouldn't appreciate me painting the walls haha
i should have some extra dollars but i was confused about what design or colour bedding i would purchase as i want to have some sort of colour scheme throughout my room

Here is one photo from your idea book. The bedding is simple and allows you to make changes in the future.

Headboard: If you are buying one for decorative purpose only, you could skip the headboard and just use the shams as your headboard. That would save you $ for other items. If you definitely want a headboard, I would buy something simple. How about white?

What I would recommend as your next step is to look for side tables and lamps, as well as art. Let the art that you fall in love with dictate the other colors in your room. It is easier to find a pillow that matches art that it is to find art that matches a pillow.

So, you can either choose art that goes with your bedspread or choose anything you want and then plan on buying a new bedding.

You don't need a feature wall. The paint in you room could be neutral. I don't think your dad would be opposed to that.

Megan, that made such a big difference when you moved the furniture, don't you agree? I was kidding about JB. Glad you don't follow the crowd.

If you wanted to try something for a headboard get a wooden dowel rod slightly longer than your bed is wide and attatch it to the wall about 3 feet above the bed. Then use a piece of fabric to drape over the rod and make sure it's long enough to hang down behind the mattress. You might get your an adult to help you hang the rod and make certain it's hung straight.

Hopefully, it would look something like this (but you don't have to do the little strips of fabric--just one piece will work)
