I'm adding "lockers and bench" to our back entry... which is actually where most people enter. It is an approx square 8.5' room with a slate floor and faces south with a door in the center of the south and north walls. We are adding the "locker" cabinets on the west 8.5' wall. It will have an open shelving unit on each end that is deeper, with a bench between, wainscoting on the wall behind the bench with hooks, and a shelf above. Now for the question... we wanted to add a beadboard ceiling (stained) and make the "lockers" white with a stained seat (to tie into our existing entertainment center). However the baskets on the end units will mark up white shelves in no time so I thought, why not make the shelves in the end units more substantial and stain them but keep the white body so the room isn't too dark. IS that just crazy? can't seem to find any examples of mixing like that.
