You have a nice room. Would leave the wicker white and redo all the upholstery and pillows. Try an outdoor fabric such as Sunbrella in a beautiful solid to go with the patterned rug. Yellows and blues would look great.

New cushions , not just covers but new altogether, in a geometric pattern or if going for floral something with large print from the Sunbrella line. I would put some sun shades on those windows before the piano finish is ruined. The nice thing with sunshades is you can still see out. I would take the coffee table out A new lamp would make the space feel a little more updated. If you go with the pin dot I would add some yellow in the room, cushions for sure.

We don't have the rugs any more - just the hardwood floor. The piano doesn't get direct sun so the finish is not in danger. I like the idea of the pin-dots with yellow or red, perhaps. I need to find someone who can make me plumper cushions - these are about four inches deep and very firm - would like something to sink into.

Any good upholsterer can do that for you. Sometimes a layer of down in a pillow on top of the foam just softens it enough. Glad to hear about piano, I have a black laquer baby grand and where i really wanted it was just to sunny.

might also consider a lime green or bright turquoise as accent with the blue pin dot option.

I like a rug, too - however, we have a puppy. Need I say more? :-) And the room is long and narrow. The other end which is about the same size as you see in the pix is my office. Nice having a view!

What about considering a change on the walls also? A friend just used a lovely color from Benj Moore called tranquility? Looks like the same paper may be in the adjoining room? If not up to changing all, what about picking one color from the paper to paint the walls? I think a solid color on the walls would do a lot to freshen the room.

@donnahale - yes, it is heated. Lots of windows so it's nice and bright, (but not on the piano). I sit looking out at that view from my desk. @Harriet - I just repapered one wall in the adjoining living room the dark blue from the paper. I'd have a hard time repapering this one because of all the cuts and windows. :-( And it would have to be paper, not paint.

Thanks, Harriet - saw one I liked and ordered a sample. I'll get the books for the other three on Monday. I believe you all are right that a solid color would open up and brighten up the room.
