What type of stone is the mantel and where can one purchase it so thin?

    The stone is a Pennsylvania Bluestone (Blue/Blue color). The lower portion of the fireplace surround are slabs with a thermal finish. The upper portion is a thin veneer snapped face stacked stone. They are both sourced from Diaz Stone and Pallet in Penn. The mantel is actually 3/8" thick steel plate with a black finish.

    This type of thinner stone is called thin stone veneer or stacked stone. Realstone Systems offers a line of stone in similar colors. Awesome room!

    What is the mantel shelf made of? Wood or Steel?

    Peter. The mantel is made of 3/8" thick steel plate that has been chemically blackened.
